Rosie O’Donnell Asks Twitter If Barron Trump Has Autism, Causes Outrage

Rosie O’Donnell is under fire for speculating about whether Barron Trump, the 10-year-old son of President-elect Donald Trump, is autistic.

Rosie O’Donnell recently shared a YouTube video titled “Is Barron Trump Autistic? #StopTheBullying” on her Twitter page. The former talk show host, who has been feuding with Donald Trump for years, tweeted that it would be “an amazing opportunity” to bring attention to autism if Barron has the disorder.

The seven-minute video that Rosie O’Donnell shared purports to show “evidence” that Donald and Melania Trump’s youngest son is on the autism spectrum. It includes footage of Barron at the Republican National Convention, where he was filmed clapping without touching his hands together. The creator of the video claims that Barron makes “strange movements,” “walks wobbly,” and engages in “anti-social behavior,” all of which can be symptoms of autism.

The controversial video, which contains some NSFW language, asks people not to bully Barron Trump for being autistic. However, neither Donald Trump nor Melania Trump has ever said that their son has the disorder. As FOX NY 5 reports, some of Rosie O’Donnell’s Twitter followers were outraged with her for possibly “outing” a child with autism. Others slammed O’Donnell for speculating about something so personal.

“So, it is your place to ‘out’ a 10 year old that may have autism? It is no one’s business, but his families. #RosieIsABully,” @bryty tweeted.

“Not nice to bring attention to a private family matter. If they choose not to exploit their child u should not either,” @ArtiesOther wrote.

Some of O’Donnell’s Twitter followers accused her of “attacking” Barron Trump by bringing more attention to the video.

“@Rosie attacks a child because she doesn’t like his dad when she has her own kids to worry about, #BoycottRosie,” @IzzaDocious1 tweeted.

Donald Trump supporter Mike Cernovich, described as “an alt-right social commentator” by CNN, responded to O’Donnell’s tweet by calling her “trash.”

Some of Rosie’s critics may assume that she’s “going after” Barron Trump because of her long, contentious history with Donald Trump. As NBC News reports, Donald Trump revived their decade-long feud during the first presidential debate, when Hillary Clinton reminded Americans that he had called women “pigs” and “slobs.” Donald Trump responded by admitting that he had said some “very tough things” to Rosie O’Donnell, but he argued that “everybody would agree that she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her.”

Rosie O’Donnell responded to criticism of the Barron Trump autism video by making it clear that she didn’t create it; she simply decided to share it because “it resonated” with her. She agreed with a follower who tweeted that there’s “no shame in having an autistic child,” and O’Donnell tried to convince her critics that she has nothing against Barron Trump by praising the boy. In response to a Twitter follower who joked that Barron is suffering from “affluenza,” Rosie O’Donnell wrote that she thinks Donald’s son is “truly angelic” and “beautiful like Ivanka.”

This isn’t the first time Rosie O’Donnell has made controversial comments about autism. In February, a rep for the National Autism Association called the comedienne a “piece of dog s***” for joking she’d trade her difficult teenage kids for autistic triplets. Rosie apologized for her comments and said that she’s “aware of the challenges and stigma associated with autism.” She also told TMZ that she has two children with spectrum disorders.
