‘The Walking Dead’ Star Jeffrey Dean Morgan Angers Andrew Lincoln On Set, Teases Him

The Walking Dead Season 7 breakout star Jeffrey Dean Morgan says he likes to tease veteran star Andrew Lincoln on set, infuriating him at times. At least that is the report that has been circulating about him now for a while, which he just recently confirmed.

When Jeffrey Dean Morgan sat down and spoke with Entertainment Weekly, he gave them an account of what he did to Andrew Lincoln on the set of Season 7 of The Walking Dead, and it is quite intense.

One thing that fans of The Walking Dead should know is that Andrew Lincoln is well known to take his role on The Walking Dead very seriously, so he finds creative ways to get himself built up to play the role before the cameras start recording. This is a technique that some of the most well-known actors in Hollywood use, such as Daniel Day-Lewis, Jared Leto, and many others.

This little tidbit of information was something that Jeffrey Dean Morgan used to capitalize on when they were filming Season 7 of The Walking Dead. Considering Morgan hailed from the original season of another major horror show, Supernatural, he has a bit of clout in the genre and this is one of the many reasons he has flowed so well as the character of Negan on The Walking Dead.

“I know I’m doing my job [on The Walking Dead] the more mad Andy Lincoln gets. So if off-camera he’s screaming and swearing in between takes, I know me and Negan are doing our job and I’ve gotten him pretty riled up,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan told Entertainment Weekly about filming Season 7 of The Walking Dead. “And then of course we have to go and apologize and get back to being friends after takes, but it’s been intense. And that is fun.”

There is also another thing that makes Jeffrey Dean Morgan the perfect choice for the job on The Walking Dead. Before he was ever cast as Negan, Morgan had already read all of The Walking Dead comic books by Robert Kirkman. He had been devoted to them and he knew the character of Negan from top to bottom. When playing a character like Negan on The Walking Dead, there is a certain amount of prerequisite knowledge that needs to flow into the character. The actor has to know who he is at that point in time, but also who he will eventually be in order to properly sell the character to an audience of millions around the world.

“I’ve just never had more fun playing a character. He’s really complicated and it’s a lot of work. A lot goes into what you will see on the screen with this character. But I go home every night thinking, oh my God, that is the most fun I’ve ever had. And he’s horrible,” Jeffrey Dean Morgan told Entertainment Weekly. “Negan does some horrible things, which I don’t necessarily feel great about while we’re doing it. But then again, reading the [Walking Dead] graphic novel and bringing him to life, it has been incredibly challenging. And I love that challenge of bringing him to life. And I love watching the cast reaction.”

For fans of The Walking Dead, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan has been a hit right out of the gate for Season 7. Most Walking Dead fans have a love/hate relationship with the character of Negan, but everyone seems to agree that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has portrayed the character with such an intense honesty that he could potentially be up for an Emmy next year. But only time will tell that.

In the meantime, Jeffrey Dean Morgan will continue to tease Andrew Lincoln on and off the set of The Walking Dead right until that last moment when someone, or something, will push Negan back a few steps. But fans of The Walking Dead should also be aware that Negan has not even died in the comic book yet, so don’t go expecting Maggie to get her revenge any time soon.
