Donald Trump And Immigration: What You Need To Know

Donald Trump may have shocked the world with his recent locker room banter, yet, equally shocking are the beliefs that he espouses when it comes to immigration. With American politics more volatile than they have ever been, it is more important than ever that we look at just where the parties stand when it comes to important issues like immigration.

While Barack Obama may have proposed an amnesty on illegal immigrants, Trump is intent on taking the country in the exact opposite direction.

“The truth is, the central issue is not the needs of the 11 million illegal immigrants. Only the out-of-touch media elites think the biggest problems facing American society today is that there are 11 million illegal immigrants who don’t have legal status.”

If you are one of the many who are interested in just where Donald Trump stands on immigration and policies that may affect you, read on.

One of the most talked about policies around the world right now is the wall that Donald has proposed building along the border of Mexico and the United States. Not only would he like to see a wall built, but he has also proposed that the Mexican government pay for it. Luis Videgaray, the Treasury Secretary of Mexico, has flat out rejected this idea and stated that Mexico would “emphatically and categorically” not pay for such a wall.

The idea of a wall between the countries may seem impractical, but Donald Trump has previously stated that Mexican immigrants are both “criminals” and “rapists,” and is adamant that he would be protecting American citizens by building this wall. Trump has, however, been quick to point out that he has some endearing feelings for his friends and employees that are Mexican and that they are not all bad.

“I am proud to say how many people I employ. They are tremendous people.”

Another reason Trump has for building a wall between the United States and Mexico is that he purports that heroin is being heavily distributed across the southern border.

Those that were watching the second presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will remember when a question about Muslim Americans was asked. Many Muslims feel uneasy about their place in America and may have been troubled at the prospect of Trump’s ideological certification system being put into place. And it’s not just Muslims who are concerned. Everyone entering the United States would be placed under close scrutiny as part of this ideological certification proposal.

When Donald was speaking in Ohio at Youngstown State University, he spoke decisively about his future plans for screening those planning to come to the United States.

“A Trump Administration will establish a clear principle that will govern all decisions pertaining to immigration. We should only admit into this country those who share our values and respect our people. In the Cold War, we had an ideological screening test.”

What does this mean to you? It means that depending on the country of your origin, you may not even be able to obtain a visa if there is inadequate screening in that location. Screening would include making sure all prospective immigrants share American values and believe in the same ideologies. Unfortunately, there is no firm blueprint for this ideological screening and as of yet, it is anybody’s guess what it will include.

As all societies and cultures are obviously quite different from one another, when it comes to people that have different cultural values and beliefs than Americans, Trump suggested that Americans’ way of life was being threatened.

“We’re like the big bully that keeps getting beat up.”

Perhaps the closest Donald Trump comes to describing his own personal and political beliefs about immigration is when he says that he would like to bring back integrity to the immigration system by putting the needs of American citizens first. Nobody is suggesting that American needs are not important or that they shouldn’t be paid attention to, but when he speaks of Americans we need to ask ourselves who he is referring to. Is it only a small segment of American society or does he intend to embrace all Americans as a whole, regardless of race or cultural background?

How do you feel about Donald Trump and immigration? Do you believe he is doing the right thing by focusing so much on building walls and vetting immigrants?
