An Alabama Mom Says Wendy’s Called Her Son ‘Lil Ugly Dude’ On A Receipt

An Alabama mother is furious at a Wendy’s in Mobile after she says the staff there bullied her disabled son and printed his receipt with the words “Lil Ugly Dude,” WKRG (Mobile) is reporting.

Teeneshia Bush says that last week, she sent her 15-year-old son, Quenterus Brown, into Wendy’s to pick up some food. He came out crying, she says.

Quenterus told his mom that he couldn’t figure out why everyone behind the counter was laughing at him – several cashiers and even the manager, according to Grubstreet. But once he saw the receipt, he realized that he was the butt of a joke: on the bottom of the receipt were written the words “Lil Ugly Dude.”

“It hurt my feelings, it made me cry I was embarrassed and I felt bad.”

Bush says her son deals with “mental health issues” daily, and she considers what happened at Wendy’s that day a form of bullying.

“Because you don’t go around making fun of people, you don’t know their situation, that’s bullying.”

Rather than going inside and giving the manager a piece of her mind – Bush says her “ghetto side” was telling her to let her have it – she did the next-best thing: public shaming. She took to Facebook to post a picture of the receipt, along with the story of how the receipt came about. As of this writing, her original post has been shared almost 2,000 times.

In a statement via Grubstreet, Wendy’s director of management services Ed Sheffield apologized for the receipt and assured readers that the employee in question has been fired.

“We were certainly disappointed to learn that one of our employees treated a guest in such a rude manner. We take this seriously, and we no longer employ this individual.”

And while she’s willing to accept Sheffield’s apology, Bush wants Wendy’s employees to be better-trained so that something like this doesn’t happen again.

In the age of social media, one thing you can be sure of is that if you anger, annoy, or in some other way slight someone, and you leave written proof, you will be publicly shamed on the internet. Every few weeks, it seems, someone will post a photo of a restaurant receipt on social media. Sometimes, as was the case with Quenterus Brown, somebody at the restaurant will add some unnecessary snark on the receipt, thinking the customer won’t notice.

That happened to Dillon Arnold in June, according to the Inquisitr. He and some friends went to the All Stars Bar & Grill in Rhode Island, and when they got the receipt, he saw that someone behind the counter had taken it upon themselves to add the word “Fatty” to the receipt.

“I was signing my slip. I didn’t really pay attention to it yet, and then I just happened to read it and I saw it in the corner and I was like, ‘Wow,’ and my heart just dropped.”

Just as often, servers themselves will post pictures of receipts in order to publicly shame customers who stiffed them on the tip. Often times, instead of a tip, the customer will write something unhelpful, snarky, or even hateful.

In April, as reported by the Inquisitr, Alexandra Judd, a gay waitress at Zada Janes in Charlotte, North Carolina, posted a photo of a receipt she’d gotten back from a customer. Instead of a tip, the customer wrote “Lev. 20:13” – an Old Testament verse calling for homosexuals to be put to death, along with the words “praying for you.”

Back in Alabama, Sheffield says they hope that Teeneshia and her son will feel welcome at Wendy’s again.
