Minecon 2016: Minecraft Updates Set For October Release Detailed, Watch Day 1 Here


Minecon 2016 has revealed new details about the upcoming Minecraft updates. Fans of the sandbox game can expect fresh updates next month.

It was announced at Minecon 2016 that there will be a new DLC pack up for grabs for the Minecraft: Console Edition players starting October 4. According to Nerdist, the Chinese Mythology Mash-Up will be released for a $4.99 price tag. Here’s what gamers can do after getting the new content pack, as posted on Xbox Wire.

“Wander through the streets of an ancient great city, marvel at the dragons that dwell around the high mountains, contemplate on your crafting within a mythical monastery and just enjoy the view as you walk through fields and discover how mobs would look in ancient China.”

Expect 13 themed music tracks and 41 new skins from the upcoming Chinese Mythology Mash-up pack as well. There’s also going to be a special new map for the Battle mini-game.

Aside from the Chinese Mythology Mash-up, all the console editions of Minecraft will also receive a free game update on October 4, adding new features to the popular game. Xbox Wire also shared that new mobs, specifically polar Bears and their babies, will be wandering frozen biomes upon getting the Minecraft update.

Furthermore, new items like farm beetroots will be added and gamers will be able to create beautiful banners after the game update. New blocks will be added such as End Bricks, Red Nether Brick, and Bone Block, among others. “You’ll find Igloos in Arctic biomes, Fossils buried underground, as well as different village paths and materials,” it added.

Minecraft: Console Edition is available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PS Vita & Wii U.

Minecon 2016 also revealed new information about the Boss Update for Minecraft Pocket Edition as well as for the Minecraft Windows 10 Edition Beta.Minecraft’s Boss Update is set to bring boss battles in the game for the first time in the Android, iOS and Windows 10 versions of the game.

“We’ve tweaked the Wither boss battle, added the Elder Guardian and its Ocean Monument filled with goodies for building and adventuring and even introduced slash commands so you can tweak the game itself by summoning, teleporting and more,” Jesse Merriam, the executive producer for Minecraft revealed.

Accordingly, the Boss Update for Minecraft is set to roll out on October 18. It also brings in the first iteration of Add-Ons, which lets players personalize the appearance of mobs and animals through JSON. Merriam further explained this new gameplay feature.

“With Add-Ons, you’ll be able to experiment with remixing components of entities or characters in the game. Worlds you create with Add-Ons can be shared with others directly or uploaded to your Realms and accessed anytime, anywhere.”

New input options will be provided as well in the Minecraft update arriving on October 18 for Windows 10 and Gear VR. “Boss Update will allow you to use your Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth while you’re playing the Gear VR and Windows 10 Editions,” Merriam shared. “And, VR players of the Windows 10 Edition will be getting an update to support Oculus Touch input.”

Happening in Anaheim, California, Minecon 2016 is a two-day all-things Minecraft weekend event that kicked off yesterday, September 25. Watch the first day of Minecon 2016 below.

The schedule for Minecon 2016’s second and last day includes a casual chat with Minecraft’s lead developer, Jens. Other programs and panel taking place today are “Learning to Make Maps in Minecraft,” “Create a Minecraft Roleplay with StacyPlays,” “Minecraft: Story Mode – A TellTale Panel,” “Minecraft in VR” and more. There will also be a mini-game showdown between 4J Studios and Youtubers.
