Triple H To Get Involved In Universal Title Match At ‘Clash Of Champions’?

The WWE Universal Championship will be on the line this coming Sunday night, when the champ, Kevin Owens, defends against the challenger, Seth Rollins.

Owens won the Universal Championship back on August 29 with an assist from Triple H, who we hadn’t seen on WWE television since WrestleMania 32 this past spring. We haven’t seen “the Game” appear on television ever since he helped Owens win the title, but, according to the Sun, we could see him return during the main event of this Sunday’s pay-per-view.

“Triple H should make another surprise appearance this Sunday to explain himself and cost Rollins the belt once again – setting up a big grudge match later down the line.”

It’s expected that Rollins and Triple H won’t wrestle until next year’s WrestleMania 33. So the feud between the two will likely consist of Triple H popping up out of nowhere every couple of weeks to cost Rollins a big match.

Of course, WWE was planning on doing Rollins vs. Triple H at this past year’s WrestleMania 32, but Rollins ended up blowing out his knee, which caused him to miss the event. Triple H ended up wrestling Roman Reigns instead.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H is keeping himself off of WWE Raw until the NFL season is over, because the show has taken a massive hit in the ratings due to Monday Night Football. So, we likely won’t see Triple H on Raw until January.

Whether Triple H interferes or not, Rollins probably won’t end up winning the Universal Title, unless the plan is to build towards a Seth Rollins vs. Triple H Universal Title match at WrestleMania 33. As of this writing, it looks like Rollins will lose on Sunday, and then WWE will build towards a three way match for the title between Rollins, Roman Reigns, and the champion, Kevin Owens.

There have been rumors of a Shield reunion taking place after this Sunday’s pay-per-view, but that seems highly unlikely due to the fact that one of the three Shield members – Dean Ambrose – is on SmackDown, while Rollins and Reigns are on Raw.

One of WWE’s four biggest shows of the year – Survivor Series – is coming up in November, which is where fans are thinking that the Shield will reunite, as it’s a dual-brand pay-per-view. Of course, if they were to reunite there, it would likely only be for that night, unless WWE were to move Ambrose over to Raw.

The obvious direction after the pay-per-view is Seth Rollins vs. Triple H, but the question is, will they be able to wait until WrestleMania to do the match? Sure, the plan is to keep Triple H off of Raw until football season is over, but WWE could get impatient, and try to setup the match within the next couple of months.

In the past, WWE hasn’t been the best at holding off on big matches, especially when their television ratings are declining, and if they believe that an advertised Triple H return will boost Raw’s viewership despite the fact that they’re going head to head with the NFL, then they’ll bring him back in a heartbeat.

Another thing to consider is that WWE probably wants to do a Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins rematch at some point, as Rollins was the guy who put Balor out of action. Balor is hoping to return in time for WrestleMania 33, so will he be Rollins’ opponent instead of Triple H? Well, that depends on whether or not WWE decides to have Rollins fight Triple H beforehand. But, given the fact that there’s really not anyone else that Triple H can work with at WrestleMania 33, they’ll probably hold off on doing that match until then.
