Colin Kaepernick ‘South Park’ Episode Pokes Fun At National Anthem Protest [Video]

An upcoming Colin Kaepernick South Park episode is planning to use the NFL quarterback’s protest as the butt of a joke. Of course, fans of Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s animated series are used to things like this. South Park makes fun of celebrities all the time.

In one instance, a celebrity even threatened to sue Parker and Stone if they ever aired a certain episode again. The episode features Hollywood mega-star Tom Cruise, who goes into the closet and won’t come out after it’s revealed that one of the kids was named the reincarnation of Scientology creator L. Ron Hubbard and not him. The episode used the opportunity to state that the Church of Scientology is just a big scam, and Cruise took it personally.

San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the latest celebrity whose public shenanigans are about to get the infamous South Park treatment. In the clip, the voice actors behind the show collaborate in singing the U.S. National Anthem, “Star-Spangled Banner.” However, the words are completely different as they praise him and call police pigs, and then change their minds over something ridiculous.

“Colin Kaepernick is great, cops are pigs. Wait, someone just took my stuff. I need to call the cops. Oh no, I just said cops are pigs. Who’s gonna help me get my stuff? Why did I listen to Colin Kaepernick? He’s not even any good.”

As the clip continues, the lyrics mention them getting their stuff back, and then going back to praising Colin Kaepernick and bashing police. This South Park parody was inspired by the NFL quarterback refusing to stand for the National Anthem due to its lyrics.

In the third stanza of Star Spangled Banner, the song officially mentions slaves in the following lines. “Their blood has [washed] out their foul footstep’s pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave [from] the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave.”

Kaepernick’s problem with it is how it seems to praise racism, according to Rolling Stone. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”

Colin’s words have rocked the internet as people on both sides have voiced strong opinions on the subject. Some are calling him unpatriotic, while others are joining in the protest due to what sound like racist lyrics.

Colin Kaepernick’s stance, as South Park appears to be demonstrating, is that the United States is full of people of color who hate police over an unfortunate trend of brutality and unfair treatment. Police have been known to use excessive force against people of color, and that is what Colin is protesting.

At least that’s what South Park seems to be focusing on with its National Anthem preview trailer. Keep it in mind that South Park is taking on Colin Kaepernick the same way the show takes on almost all current social issues. It makes fun of them, and the irreverence of the humor keeps people coming back for more.
