WWE News: Roman Reigns Gets ‘Clash Of Champions’ Opportunity Stolen From Him

Roman Reigns was clearly never a favorite of the WWE executives, but the latest WWE news about him is enough to make you wonder if, in fact, he’s getting sabotaged on purpose. Who would have thought that last night’s Raw would have shown the match between Reigns and Kevin Owens ending the way it did?

According to Cageside Seats, for all of the WWE news surrounding how much Roman Reigns is a so-called “cheater” because of his vest, at least he never resorted to the same level of dirty tactics that Kevin Owens took last night, when Rusev — who already had a major issue with Roman Reigns thanks to the whipping he took last month in the ring — bum-rushed the ring and gave Kevin Owens the opportunity to give Roman Reigns the Pop Up Powerbomb.

This means that Kevin Owens will fight against Seth Rollins at the upcoming Clash of Champions event, though it’s quite arguable as to whether he deserves to have that opportunity. After all, he didn’t exactly win against Roman Reigns fair and square; rather, he needed help from a wrestler that wouldn’t otherwise be able to beat Reigns, as he’s already demonstrated in previous fights (wedding cake drama notwithstanding).

And, according to Campus Sports, this latest bit of WWE news was already in the cards from the minute Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns took to the ring. The fight started off with Seth Rollins coming down to attack Owens during the first part of the fight, causing a disqualification.

When this happened, Foley came down to the ring and confronted Rollins on his behavior, forcing The Architect to walk away from the fight, and forcing the fight between Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns to re-start.

And, for what it’s worth, the two men put on a good fight. Not only has Roman Reigns proved that he’s a good fighter in the ring, but he’s now also proven that he brings out the good fighter in other fighters as well, and Kevin Owens was demonstrating a technical prowess he hadn’t demonstrated before tonight.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Rusev to jump into the ring and distract The Big Dog, throwing the fight in Owens’ favor. And then, to add insult to injury, when the cameras were off, Rusev beat Roman Reigns up for good measure.

But according to Daily DDT, this ignoble bit of WWE news is actually good news for Roman Reigns, because this means that he can continue his rivalry with Rusev. Even though, as a fighter, Rusev is far from a main card attraction, he’s getting a lot of character development courtesy of the former Shield powerhouse. And, as has been previously mentioned, Roman Reigns is a premier athlete, and very few wrestlers can actually match him, let alone beat him, in the technical department – and Rusev is, for what it’s worth, one of the few that can match Reigns in the technical department.

But most important of all is that it’s this battle against Rusev (which Daily DDT speculates will lead to a Clash of Champions fight between Rusev and Roman Reigns) is establishing a heel storyline for Roman Reigns. Yes, it’s absolutely terrible that Roman Reigns got a 30 day suspension for the “wellness policy” violation that no one seems to be able to figure out; if that hadn’t happened, things would be very different for Roman Reigns right now. But like it or not, this is the best Roman Reigns can hope for at this point in his career.
