Taylor Swift And Tom Hiddleston Update: Was He Planning To Propose Before Their Split?

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have parted ways, and just days after their split was confirmed, a source claims the couple may have been headed for an engagement just prior to the breakup.

Although Swift and Hiddleston will certainly not be seen confirming an engagement anytime soon, Hiddleston was reportedly considering popping the question to Swift weeks before they called it quits after just three months of dating.

According to an Us Weekly source, Hiddleston was “contemplating buying a ring” for Taylor Swift two months ago.

“He’s talked about it all: marriage and kids. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had proposed,” the source alleged, via Gossip Cop.

However, according to Gossip Cop, the report was untrue.

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston debuted their relationship in June just two weeks after Swift’s split from Calvin Harris was confirmed. At the time, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston had been spotted on the beach in Rhode Island, where their intense PDA made it clear that they were an item. From there, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston were spotted together in several countries, including Italy, the U.K., and Australia, where Hiddleston has been filming Thor for the past few months.

In mid-August, an In Touch Weekly report claimed that after Taylor Swift accidentally found a diamond engagement ring in her boyfriend’s drawer, she had grown hesitant to accept Hiddleston’s allegedly upcoming proposal. According to the report, Taylor Swift had previously expressed interest in getting married, but once the idea became real, she was said to have gotten cold feet.

“[Taylor Swift] feels bad because she’s the one who originally told Tom she wanted to get married, but now she isn’t sure what she wants,” the source revealed. “She ruined the whole surprise, which left Tom upset for obvious reasons. But he was also crushed that she was telling him she wanted to wait.”

The source also claimed Hiddleston had been ignoring the advice of his friends and family, who suggested the actor slow things down, and was hoping to get serious with the singer — despite Taylor Swift’s hesitancy.

“He gave [Taylor Swift] an ultimatum about getting engaged,” the source continued. “She’s now telling everyone she’s made a ‘decision to make a decision’ by the end of August. She knows she either has to get engaged or leave Tom.”

In response to the In Touch Weekly report, a source told Gossip Cop the claims were “made up.”

Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s split was confirmed earlier this month. In the weeks leading up to the announcement, there had been many rumors regarding the end of their relationship, mainly due to the fact that the couple seemed to be spending a lot of time apart.

In early August, Taylor Swift flew to New York City from Los Angeles, where she proceeded to spend time with friends and celebrated the birthday of her close friend Karlie Kloss. She was also seen joining rapper Nelly for a performance. Meanwhile, as Taylor Swift enjoyed her time in the Big Apple, Hiddleston was spending the majority of his time in Australia.

Although Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston have remained silent about their split, a source recently shed some light on the situation.

“It was an intense start,” a Hiddleston family source told Us Weekly on September 9. “No one can keep that kind of momentum going. They just dived in and it backfired… They decided to take a break and it turned into a breakup.”
