After grabbing a victory over England in the fifth and final ODI match Sunday, the Pakistan national cricket team are desperate for a win in the lone T20 International match that will close out their eight-week tour of England and Wales. The match that will stream live from Manchester and features the captaincy debut of Pakistan’s veteran wicketkeeper, Sarfraz Ahmed.
Sarfraz took over the Pakistan T20 captaincy from the popular Shahid Afridi earlier this year, but the team has not contested a match in the shortest form of cricket until now. The new skipper believes that grabbing the ODI victory Sunday to prevent an England whitewash gives his side the momentum heading into Wednesday’s sole T20 match of the tour.
“Representing the country is a big achievement, but I am really excited to lead. I am trying to lead everything and to play positive cricket and win tomorrow,” Sarfraz told the media on Tuesday. “It’s a positive thing for us to win from 4-0 down, a great achievement chasing 300 outside of Asia. We are very confident. We are trying to develop a new team with youngsters and play Twenty20 like England and Australia.”
A win would at least allow Pakistan to leave England feeling they are on more or less level terms with their hosts, who have put together an electrifying run in both forms of the one-day game since their 2015 World Cup disaster.
