Watch Green Bay Packers Vs. San Francisco 49ers Live Stream: NFL Preseason Week 3 — Aaron Rodgers Expected To Debut

The Green Bay Packers travel to Santa Clara, California, to face the San Francisco 49ers in a preseason NFL matchup that will stream live in Week Three — generally considered the “dress rehearsal” week for the National Football League regular season, which opens on Sunday, September 11, for Green Bay, and a day later with a Monday night opener for the 49ers.

Because the third of four preseason games is usually the one in which a team’s starting players are likely to see the most time on the field — remaining limited in the other three games to avoid injury — Green Bay future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to see his first on-field action since the Packers were bounced out of last season’s NFC playoffs in the divisional round by the Arizona Cardinals in an overtime game.

Packers Coach Mike McCarthy, however, wasn’t ready to promise that the 32-year-old 12-year veteran, entering his ninth year as Green Bay starting quarterback, would take the field on Friday night at Levi’s Stadium.

“The goal is to obviously play Aaron and play our guys,” McCarthy told ESPN earlier in the week. “But we’ll evaluate today’s practice and we’ll have that meeting tomorrow.”

In the following video, Sports Illustrated’s Monday Morning Quarterback evaluates Rodgers’ outlook coming off what was generally seen as a down season for him in 2015, in which he led his team to a 10-6 record and an NFC Wild Card playoff berth.

“We haven’t talked about play time yet. I’ll find out probably shortly before you guys find out,” Rodgers said to ESPN. “I think I’m going to play. I’m not sure how long he wants me to play. But it’ll be good to get out there and get some work with the guys.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Pacific Time at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California — 10 p.m. Eastern — on Friday, August 26.

On the other side of the ball, San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick is expected to take his first in-game preseason snaps, after Blaine Gabbert, who started eight games for the 5-11 49ers last season, has handled the bulk of the duties in the first two preseason games.

The 28-year-old Kaepernick, making his comeback after a shoulder injury, and Gabbert, a 26-year-old out of Missouri, will be competing for the 49ers starting job, with neither yet seen as holding an edge in the eyes of new Head Coach Chip Kelly — hired by San Francisco to replace the fired Jim Tomsula, after Kelly was dropped by the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
