Selena Gomez repeatedly seemed to make it clear in interviews that she was over Justin Bieber and their Jelena era. But now, after shocking everyone by commenting on Instagram about Justin’s new girlfriend Sofia Richie and his threats to his fans about making Instagram private (he eventually abandoned his account), Gomez is suffering from heartbreak, with a source telling Hollywood Life that she still secretly loves Bieber.
Four years after Selena and Justin supposedly set their off-again-on-again romance to the permanent “off” switch, she still believes that he’s the one. And as Bieber moves on with other girlfriends, ranging from Hailey Baldwin to Kourtney Kardashian, Gomez is left watching her former boyfriend and trying to comprehend why he finds it so easy to love ’em and lose ’em, revealed the source.
“Selena wants to do whatever she can to cut her attachment to Justin…She can’t understand why it’s been so easy for him to move on and so hard for her.”
In addition, the insider answered the question so many were asking: Why did Selena choose to get involved in that Instagram battle? Justin had scolded his fans for throwing shade at Sofia, but what was Gomez’s motivation for publicizing her own views? The insider claims that the “Kill ‘Em With Kindness” singer had the best intentions — but they were “clouded with jealousy” over Bieber’s new romance with Richie.
“She’s sworn a million times that she would just let it all go but dating other guys has been a little challenging,” added the source, pointing to Samuel Krost and Charlie Puth.
“The problem is that she believed for so long that Justin was her soul mate, so she can’t seem to shake it.”
To succeed in moving on from Bieber, Gomez has to let go of her feelings for him. But E! News reports that Selena is struggling with emotions that aren’t so quickly resolved, citing an insider who contends that “some feelings just don’t go away.”
As for how the relationship between Bieber and Gomez has matured, it remains “rocky,” claims this insider, who also revealed that Justin did try to show his love for Selena in the past before moving on.
“They were very in love at one point and went through a lot,” added the source. “He has made attempts in the past to show Selena he cares for her but the timing hasn’t been right.”
It all began when Bieber shared pictures of himself with Richie on social media, resulting in harsh comments from some fans.
“I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand,” Justin then warned. “If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.”
And that’s when Gomez clapped back in that shocking response.
“If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only,” she wrote. “Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you.”
Although Justin deleted his Instagram account, Selena has kept the spotlight on their relationship by writing an apology on Snapchat.
“What I said was selfish and pointless,” read the apology.
Those intrigued by both Bieber and Gomez flocked to comment on her rueful message.
