Investigation Discovery: Kenda, Candice And Paula Return With New Seasons

Investigation Discovery “addicts” are in luck the next couple of weeks when some of the network’s most beloved personalities and favorite shows return for new seasons. From noir-ish tales of a former homicide detective to current investigations to profiles of some of the most dangerous women who ever lived, Investigation Discovery probably has a show you’ll love, if you are into true crime stories.

Everybody loves retired homicide detective Lt. Joe Kenda, or at least everybody he hasn’t put behind bars. Kenda narrates stories of his days working as a Colorado homicide detective, and the man has a natural knack for storytelling. In fact, Homicide Hunter films Kenda telling his stories, then writes the scripts for the reenactments, done by a hunky actor who makes the ladies swoon. If you browse a few Facebook groups, you’ll find that some of the ladies even seem to carry a bit of a torch for Kenda himself.

Season 6 premieres with the episode, “Avert Your Eyes,” telling the story of Pamela Edwards, who was found shot through the heart. Not only does Kenda have to find her killer, but shield her daughters from the grisly scene. The investigation culminates in a car chase across Colorado Springs. Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda returns for Season 6 on August 24 at 10 p.m. ET.

Another big favorite with Investigation Discovery fans is the dry wit of former psychiatric nurse turned FBI profiler Candice DeLong and her tales of Deadly Women. Lizzie Borden had nothing on some of these murdering women, and given the show is now in its 10th season, there seems to be a pretty long list of femme fatales to draw from, with each episode profiling three different female killers. Each episode has a common theme, and Deadly Women premieres their new season with “Killer Cougars.”

Reenactments tell the stories of Dr. Shirley Turner who loved younger men, but couldn’t stand rejection. Gina Spann also loved a younger man, but her husband found out her insatiable need to be loved back could have fatal consequences. Deadly Women premieres Season 10 August 26 at 10 p.m.

For those who love current investigations and in-depth true crime journalism, On the Case with Paula Zahn returns for Season 7 on August 28 with “22 Hours of Terror.” After a home invasion, a 12-year-old girl is kidnapped, and police race to find her before it’s too late. The Emmy Award-winning journalist digs into more recent cases, using interviews with the parties involved to get to the heart of the story.

You’ve heard of Southern hospitality, right? How about a heaping helping of deep-fried homicide, y’all? Swamp Murders premieres their new season with more tales of murder and bodies dumped in swampy graves. Season 4 premieres with “A Dark Place to Die,” profiling the case of single mom Kimra Riley, who disappeared after a night out at the local bar. Her body was found two months later along the Tennessee River, and police must find her killer to serve up some justice. Swamp Murders airs August 16 at 9 p.m. ET.

The popular series Blood Relatives returns for Season 5 on August 25 with “Rotten to the Core.” A Nebraska family gets embroiled in anger and jealousy when an affair is exposed, leading to deadly consequences.

And if that isn’t enough to whet your appetite for tales of murder and mayhem, Investigation Discovery is debuting a new series titled Betrayed. The common thread in these reenacted stories is that a homicide occurred at the hands of someone the victim trusted, whether family, friend, or lover. The stories are told as if from the point of view of the victims, teasing viewers by revealing the facts a little at a time to create suspense.

The premiere tells the story of Susan Smith, a small town girl in Pikeville, Kentucky who became an FBI informant to try to protect her kids from the unsavory characters in her husband’s crowd. Things don’t quite work out as she planned, to say the least. Betrayed premieres August 24 at 9 p.m. ET.
