New ‘Star Wars Rogue One’ Character Revealed At San Diego Comic-Con: Could This Be The New Boba Fett?

A new Star Wars Rogue One character was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con today, and it looks like this new addition could be a fan favorite to rival Boba Fett. The character was revealed with a humanoid statue which appears to be dressed from head to toe with a specialized combat-ready breathing suit.

This would make yet another character in the Star Wars universe with breathing issues, with Darth Vader being the first. Vader had been defeated by Obi-Wan and left for dead, burning alive in a sea of lava when Emperor Palpatine decided to save him, and the rest is science fiction history.

Boba Fett was a character who barely had any screen time in the original trilogy, but became a fan favorite due to his rugged appearance and weaponry. His name wasn’t even spoken until Return of the Jedi, when his role was just as small, and he allegedly died after falling into the Sarlacc Pit. Some fan theories point to the possibility that he survived because he’d broken free from that pit before, but there have been no confirmations.

This new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story character is called Edrio Two-Tubes, about the same way Bib Fortuna could have been named Bib Tentacle-Head. This headgear could mean that Edrio won’t have much to say, or he’ll be speaking entirely in an alien language, much like Jabba did. Edrio’s backstory is that his planet, Yar Togna, was conquered by the Empire, according to an official statement from LucasFilm.

“The two share the nickname derived from the breathing apparatus that allows their Tognath physiology to process oxygen atmospheres. Edrio’s home world Yar Togna was conquered and occupied by the Empire, forcing him to flee as a refugee. Desiring to strike back at the Empire, Edrio and Benthic have allied with Saw Gerrera.”

In the Star Wars: Rogue One movie, this character is a mercenary pilot who joins forces with the rebels to fight back against the Empire. Edrio appears to be garbed in a kind of air-tight armor complete with metal gloves, which are reminiscent of the knights of Medieval Europe. In his right hand there appears to be a pole-like weapon with a blunt end on the bottom, possibly indicating that he is a nimble and athletic fighter. It could also be a rustic rifle, since the blunt end appears to have a kind of mechanism on it, and a symbol with an “s” etched in the middle, possibly a gift from Saw Gerrera.

It is yet unknown if there will be an actor inside a suit playing the Star Wars: Rogue One character Edrio Two-Tubes, or if he will be another CG character like BB-8 and JarJar Binks.

One thing is for certain about Rogue One, according to early footage from the trailer. Some of the combat will be much more oriental in nature, since one scene appears to be a samurai hitting a storm trooper with a bo staff. The action could be much more visceral in a film which is said to be very different from what we’ve seen before.

The reveal of Edrio Two-Tubes, the new Star Wars: Rogue One character, at San Diego Comic-Con seems to be pointing to a lot more interesting characters this time.
