Ghost Rider Coming To Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

When Netflix and Marvel teamed up, it seemed like a fun idea, but no one really knew if it would work. However, the partnership was a huge success, with Daredevil releasing not just one, but two very good seasons and Jessica Jones actually becoming one of the best female-centric superhero properties in TV or movies. The Punisher was introduced in Daredevil Season 2, and now he is getting his own show as well, making one wonder if the Marvel Knights characters would all start to come to Netflix.

One of those characters is Ghost Rider, but it sounds like Marvel might be bringing him to a completely different network and world. Comicbook.com reported that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is holding a casting call for two characters that sound a lot like Ghost Rider characters.

Edited to note that this was confirmed at Comic-Con on July 22.

The casting call is for two characters who are Latino brothers. The first is “the most dangerous person in the room,” and the second is paralyzed in a wheelchair. Now, while many old-school Marvel fans know Ghost Rider as being either Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch, there was also a more recent depiction of the demon as Robbie Reyes.

Robbie Reyes was part of the 2014 re-launch of Ghost Rider, which saw Robbie as a Latino character who drove a black Dodge Charger instead of the classic Ghost Rider motorcycle that Blaze and Ketch rode. He was a high school student who took care of his disabled brother Gabe and wanted to get them off the bad streets of Los Angeles. However, Robbie is murdered and comes back as Ghost Rider.

Robbie and a ghost named Eli Marrow team to become Ghost Rider and work to clean up the streets. The comic book series has some major twists and turns, including the revelation of who Eli Marrow really is and how it all connects with Gabe. Johnny Blaze also makes an appearance in the series. How this really all ties in with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is unknown at this time.

This comes after Screen Rant reported that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hinted at something with a train advertisement. The train advertised Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and also had a fiery chain wrapped around the train. Screen Rant assumed that the fiery chain had something to do with Hellfire, a character that joined the show in Season 3. However, the casting of the two Latino brothers makes the chain look a little more interesting.

However, Ghost Rider seems more like a character that would fit the Netflix world rather than the world of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. With The Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones, someone like Ghost Rider could possibly fit in, although the realistic villains on Netflix might make him seem out of place there as well. Netflix would also be the better place for the adult-oriented superhero that is actually a half-demon from the underworld.

Of course, if Robbie Reyes comes to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the Ghost Rider, that doesn’t mean that Netflix can’t have their own version of Ghost Rider as well. If he is just going to be a supporting character for a storyline on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Netflix could make a Ghost Rider series out of Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch.

More information will likely come this month at Comic-Con. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has always offered lots of fun stuff for fans at the San Diego convention and they will be at the convention this year. Last year, Marvel used Comic-Con to announce the Secret Warriors for Season 3, so maybe they will announce Ghost Rider for Season 4 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
