NBA Rumors: Dwyane Wade Contacts Dallas Mavericks, Might Leave Miami Heat
When an NBA player has been with a team for a very long time, it’s hard to envision them wearing a different uniform. According to the Dallas Morning News, Dwyane Wade contacted the Dallas Mavericks about signing with them in free agency. The longtime Miami Heat star could be leaving the only team that he has known.
Joining the Dallas Mavericks would be an interesting scenario for Dwyane Wade. He and the Miami Heat have battled the Mavericks twice in the NBA Finals, each side getting a championship after all was said and done. In the eyes of Heat fans, Wade would be joining the enemy.
Dallas Mavericks fans should be pretty excited about Dwyane Wade joining the team, as many want to see team owner Mark Cuban successfully be able to build a roster that can help Dirk Nowitzki compete for another NBA Championship before he decides to ride off into the sunset.

From a positional standpoint, it is interesting that Dwyane Wade would be interested in the Dallas Mavericks, as the team already has a starting shooting guard. Dallas committed a good amount of money to Wesley Matthews over the next couple of seasons, so they were set on Matthews being a starter.
Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat have been struggling to come to terms during their contract negotiations, reported CBS Sports. Since Wade is frustrated with the situation, he has instructed his representatives to contact other teams in the NBA to see what other options would be on the table.
A potential reason why Dwyane Wade would have the Dallas Mavericks on his list is the fact that the franchise is one of the better operated ones in the NBA. The loyalty that Mark Cuban and team president Donnie Nelson have shown Dirk Nowitzki over the years is something that basketball players noticed.
When free agency began, the Dallas Mavericks targeted the point guard position as one that they definitely needed to upgrade. Deron Williams did a fine job last season, but he’s no longer one of the best players in the NBA, so the Mavericks are targeting Mike Conley of the Memphis Grizzlies. The top priority in free agency for the Dallas Mavericks appears to be Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside. According to CBS Sports, Whiteside will be the first free agent that the team meets and will be offered the maximum contract.
Donnie Nelson and Mark Cuban might need to be creative with the salary cap, but if they can reunite Dwyane Wade and Hassan Whiteside, then the Dallas Mavericks might be able to let Dirk Nowitzki go out as an NBA Champion. That would be quite the feel-good story for the franchise and the sport.
The Dallas Mavericks have some competition from another NBA team in Texas for the services of Dwyane Wade. According to News 4 San Antonio, Wade has also contacted the San Antonio Spurs about free agency. Then again, the Miami Heat could change their tone because they now fear that there is actually a chance that Dwyane Wade leaves for another NBA team in free agency. Heat president Pat Riley could decide to make a bigger offer to the guy that might be the best player in team history.
While it may seem like a pipe dream right now, there is actually a chance that Dwyane Wade could be wearing a Dallas Mavericks uniform next season. The dream pairing with Dirk Nowitzki might finally be happening. If that’s the case, then things in the NBA become that much more interesting.
