Johnny Manziel’s Lawyer Accidentally Texts AP Reporter The Sad Truth About Manziel’s Upcoming Court Case

Johnny Manziel’s lawyer just made a huge fumble in Manziel’s upcoming court case for misdemeanor assault after he accidentally texted an Associated Press reporter his doubts that Johnny could stay clean and sober. The reporter was seeking comment from Manziel’s defense attorney Bob Hinton regarding a hit and run accident in which Johnny was the victim earlier in the week. Unfortunately, Hinton thought he was responding to a fellow attorney when, according to ESPN, he stated Manziel would be seeking a plea deal because he doubted Johnny’s ability to pass a court-appointed drug test.

Hinton’s text regarding Manziel reportedly said, “Heaven help us if one of the conditions is to pee in a bottle.” Apparently, Hinton had also sent a copy of a receipt believed to belong to Johnny Manziel indicating more than $1,000 worth of purchases at a smoke shop in which the hit and run accident was reported. Though Manziel’s name is not on the receipt and Hinton has since backtracked stating that there is no proof the purchases were made by Johnny, Paul Manziel, Johnny’s father, acknowledged to ESPN that his son continues to struggle with drug and alcohol abuse.

“He’s a druggie. It’s not a secret that he’s a druggie,” Paul Manziel told reporter Josina Anderson. “I don’t know what to say other than my son is a druggie and he needs help.”

As previously reported by Inquisitr, Johnny Manziel was accused of assaulting his then girlfriend back in January. Manziel was finally indicted by a grand jury at the end of April for the incident according to USA Today.

Manziel’s former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, claims that Johnny became so violent and hit her so hard that she temporary lost her hearing in one ear after Manziel forced her into the car outside of a Dallas hotel. Dallas police were able to obtain security footage from the hotel where the incident between Manziel and Crowley began, and though details of the footage have not been released, some suspect it may be the ammo the Dallas prosecutor needed to convince a grand jury of indicting Johnny.

If convicted, the misdemeanor assault charge could see Manziel landing in jail for a maximum of a year as well as fined up to $1,000. While a plea deal may not be feasible, Paul Manziel thinks jail time may not be the worst thing for Johnny as he is hoping it will be the rock bottom his son needs to hit to get some help. But some have to wonder that if the pleas from his own father, a person whom Johnny often pays adoration and respect to on social media, aren’t enough for Manziel to get help, will anything be?

Johnny Manziel is a former Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M. Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014 with the hope that he would become the franchise quarterback. However, after two tumultuous years of erratic behavior in his personal life and erratic play as a professional, Johnny was let go from the Browns during the offseason.

Though Johnny Manziel has yet to comment on his lawyer’s faux pas, one thing is for certain, Manziel hasn’t helped his own case by exhibiting model citizen behavior.

While rumors continued to surface that Manziel would get a new NFL opportunity either in Texas or Colorado, Johnny’s continued partying seems to have put his professional career at risk. Manziel has been fired by two different sports agents in the course of six months, a rarity in the realm of professional sports. And in May, concerns arose when Johnny was reported missing after failing to appear at a party he was scheduled for. Manziel was later located at a nightclub.
