The Vampire Diaries Season 8 hasn’t had many updates lately. However, there is some casting news that just came out today. A familiar face from another one of executive producer Julie Plec’s television shows is coming to TVD. Kristen Gutoskie is joining The Vampire Diaries as a woman named Seline. Who is this character, and how connected will she be to the others?

Warning: Although this is casting news, possible spoilers for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 may be ahead.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, many TVD fans were wondering about the dwindling cast of The Vampire Diaries. It was stated that both Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham plan to leave after the Season 8 finale. Nina Dobrev left a few years ago, but will return for the final episode of the show. That really only leaves a few core characters left: Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Caroline Forbes (Candice King) as well as Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Alaric (Matt Davis).

It was speculated that with such a small cast for Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries, along with Damon and Enzo being affected by the mysterious monster from the Vault, new characters need to come on board.

The first casting announcement for The Vampire Diaries Season 8 is courtesy of Spoiler TV. It turns out that Kristen Gutoskie from Containment will be appearing in The Vampire Diaries. So, what will she play and how closely will her character be tied in with fan favorites on the show?

“Seline is described as a warm, nurturing nanny of two young kids by day, and a small-town girl trying to find her place in a dangerous world by night,” Spoiler TV wrote regarding Kristen Gutoskie’s role on TVD. “Bonded to her new ‘family’ in ways she can’t explain, Seline will fight desperately to protect the ones she loves.”

The character of Seline seems similar to Kristen Gutoskie’s portrayal of Katie Frank in Containment, according to Deadline. In Julie Plec’s limited viral outbreak series, Katie was a mother and a grade-school teacher who was doing everything she could to keep the children safe.

With Stefan, Caroline, and Bonnie working around the clock to locate Damon and Enzo, many fans wondered if Alaric would also join in the search. If he does, it might be Seline who cares for the Gemini twins, who are just two special little girls with extraordinary powers. Not just anyone can look after Caroline and Alaric’s children. It would have to be someone who would be willing to protect them, but who could also understand the supernatural risks associated with taking on a nanny position like this.

Based on Kristen Gutoski’s character description, it sounds like Seline will be taking care of the Gemini twins in The Vampire Diaries Season 8. If so, that means Alaric will probably help Stefan, Caroline, and Bonnie look for Damon and Enzo. However, that doesn’t mean TVD fans won’t see Kristen on a regular basis. The casting news states that the role is recurring, so expect to see her quite a few times during the upcoming season.

Besides Containment, Kristen was in Beaver Falls, Originals (not The Vampire Diaries spin-off, this refers to a comedy), Rookie Blue, Breakout Kings, Restless Spirits, and a lot more.
