Ronnie Wood Shows Off Newborn Twin Girls: Rolling Stones Rocker Talks Fatherhood At 69

Ronnie Wood wants the world to meet his newborn twin girls. The legendary Rolling Stones guitarist and his wife, Sally, posed with their daughters for a new Hello magazine photo spread. Ronnie and his 38-year-old wife welcomed daughters Gracie Jane and Alice Rose on May 30 at St. Thomas Hospital in London, just two days before the Rolling Stones rocker turned 69 years old. Even though Ronnie Wood has long been a grandpa, the rock star sounds like he is a particularly doting dad the second time around.

“I’m the burper, walker, nappy changer and I’m still trying to work out when I can get to sleep in between all that,” Ronnie told Hello. “I have played the guitar to them and when I get round to it I will do some drawings. At the moment, I’m just soaking up every moment we have. I have Sally, I have my beautiful family and I have two little gorgeous dolly girls. All I can think is that someone up there really likes me.”

Sally Wood told the magazine about the emotional birth experience, revealing that her husband was hands-on during the delivery.

“Ronnie cut the cords and we just held our babies and looked at their little faces,” Sally said. “We both cried. You are just so happy and emotional, the tears are just there. Ronnie is so completely committed to being a dad, helping me, looking after us all.”

Ronnie Wood has already received warm wishes from famous pals like Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart. While Stewart sent Wood a greeting on social media, Jagger has already posed for photos with the babies.

“Mick [Jagger] popped in on the third day,” Ronnie told the magazine. “He couldn’t wait to see them, I put one in each arm and took a photo.”

Ronnie Wood has four older children from his two previous marriages and 10 grandchildren. But in some ways, he sounds like he’s experiencing parenthood for the first time. In a previous interview with The Daily Mail, Wood said he is seeing some things in a new way after years of drug and alcohol abuse.

“I’m a believer in letting life unfold. I’m very lucky,” Ronnie said. “I’ve been sober six years and I’m seeing things for the first time with clarity. It’s amazing. Life gets clearer all the time and this is a blessing.”

At the time, Ronnie Wood had a cute nickname for his then-unborn twin girls.

“Upper and Lower Deck I call them because in the early scans they were on top of each other like bunk beds,” Ronnie joked. “Keith [Richards] calls them This and That. ‘How’s This and That?’ he’ll say. I prefer the Ronettes.”

As for critics who think he’s too old to be a new dad, Ronnie Wood says he is in pretty good company.

“I’m joining the ranks of Picasso, Robert De Niro and Charlie Chaplin who all had babies at 68. I don’t care what other people think,” he says.”Lots of our friends who are older have children — people like Penny and Rod [Stewart] — and they say: ‘It’s fantastic, the best thing ever. It keeps you young.'”

Last month, Ronnie Wood’s publicist confirmed the birth of the baby girls to BBC News.

“Ronnie and Sally Wood are delighted to announce the birth of their twins Gracie Jane (6 lbs.) and Alice Rose (5.7 lbs.),” Wood’s publicist announced. “The girls arrived on 30 May at 22:30 and all are doing brilliantly. The babies are perfect.”

In addition to his newborn twins, Ronnie Wood’s four adult children are Jesse, 39, with his first wife Krissy Wood, and Leah, 37, Tyrone, 32, and adopted son Jamie, 41, from his second marriage to Jo Wood.
