Howard Stern: Americans Are Sheep Who Need Guns To Protect Themselves After Orlando Shooting

Radio icon Howard Stern blasted gun control advocates on his radio show this week saying it’s foolish to disarm the American public in the wake of the Orlando shooting that killed 49 people.

“Do you want a fighting chance or not?”

On The Howard Stern Show, the radio host compared unarmed citizens to sheep saying people need guns to protect themselves from the criminals and terrorists who he compared to wolves, according to the Daily Caller.

“I’m so upset about Orlando and what went down, but I can’t believe these people who come out afterwards and their answer to Orlando is to take away guns from the public.”

Stern used the analogy from Clint Eastwood’s movie American Sniper, which says most people are sheep; the military and police are sheep dogs who protect the flock and the wolves are terrorists and criminals.

The radio host said disarming the sheep makes it easier for the wolves to prey on them, which is why it’s foolish to take guns away from private American citizens who need them for their own defense.

Howard argued that more guns make everyone safer because everyone is armed and can respond to threats of violence, according to Salon.

“Now what if I went up to the sheep and I said, ‘You wanna have a shot at the wolves? I’m going to give you a pistol. You can actually even the playing field with these wolves whose fangs are out, you can shoot them.’ There’s not a sheepdog for every citizen.”

Howard went on to compare the Orlando shooting to the 9/11 terrorist attack that destroyed the World Trade Center saying airplanes are the most gun free zones in the world. That didn’t save the passengers on those planes, however, or the people in the two towers because the wolves attacked the sheep with box cutters.

The radio host admitted he was a sheep in the analogy and said most Americans were like him: willing to sit in their homes every day knowing they were unable to defend themselves. The problem from Stern’s point of view is that there aren’t enough sheep dogs to protect every sheep and the defenseless animals need access to guns to defend themselves.

Stern gave a similar argument earlier this year when he argued that every American should be armed because guns are the great equalizer, according to Breitbart.

“How else would you defend yourself against a thug with a baseball bat with a chain around it?”

The radio host’s comments come days after the Orlando shooting claimed the lives of 49 innocent people. Politicians, celebrities, and ordinary citizens have struggled to find meaning in the chaos of the largest single mass shooting in the history of the United States.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was quick to seize on the shooting as evidence his brash and bold political style was needed to protect Americans from terrorists. Trump doubled down on his calls to ban Muslims from entering the country and suggested President Barrack Obama was in league with terrorist organizations.

His fiery response hasn’t sat well with many in the general public or the Republican leadership who have found many of his post-Orlando comments offensive.

Meanwhile, Democrats have taken a firm stance on gun control arguing Americans need less access to assault weapons and ammunition. A recent filibuster action in the Senate defeated Republican attempts to table their gun control bills and means a vote will be brought to the floor at some point.

Meanwhile, families of the Orlando victims struggle to piece their shattered lives back together.

What do you think? Should Americans’ have more or less access to guns?
