Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom Divorce: Why ‘KUWTK’ Star Couldn’t Tell Family About Odom’s Drug, Cheating Scandals

Khloe Kardashian has opened up about her marriage to Lamar Odom in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, wherein the reality star admits that everything about her marriage turned dark and toxic — she knew she needed to get out quickly.

In 2013, Lamar Odom caused endless headlines for allegedly cheating on Khloe with multiple women at a penthouse he rented in downtown Los Angeles. But that wasn’t all. As the year came to an end, multiple reports claimed that Odom had been dealing with a secret he’s managed to keep out of the spotlight for years — he was a drug addict.

Following the revelation of the cheating and drug scandals, Khloe Kardashian felt as if her marriage was only getting worse the longer she stayed. Even being in the home shared with Lamar all of a sudden gave off a very dark and negative atmosphere — so much that the TV personality was more than ready to leave the troubled NBA star.

“My home [with Lamar] was dark and toxic,” Kardashian reveals. “At the time, my family didn’t know what I was going through. It was the biggest secret I’ve kept. I just needed a place to go.”

The most painful thing about the situation was probably the fact that Khloe Kardashian couldn’t tell her family members about the issues she was facing in her own home. The 31-year-old knew that if she confided in her siblings, or her momager Kris Jenner, they would begin to ask too many questions that even Khloe didn’t have the answer for.

Kardashian couldn’t understand why Lamar was hurting himself in a way that would see him lose the woman he claimed to love unconditionally. On their reality show Khloe & Lamar, their romance seemed to be going great — even pop star Rihanna gushed about the couple’s relationship, writing on Twitter that she wants to find a man who loves her the way Lamar loved Khloe.

But what people saw on their TV screens seemed to be far from the person Lamar truly was. Having dealt with a horrifying drug battle for years, the endless cheating scandals that would erupt the media in 2013 forced Khloe Kardashian to move out of the couple’s home and temporarily live at a nearby hotel.

“The paparazzi would see me and it would look shady,” she added, recalling the time many outlets questioned why the reality star was constantly making her way to a hotel. Some even assumed that she may have been the one cheating on Lamar.

But with all that negativity surrounding Khloe Kardashian at the time, she hired a personal trainer that would help her make the best transition in her life — not only the one that would see her get rid of Lamar but also one who would help her work on herself in a way that would make her feel better about herself.

Working with Gunnar Peterson, Khloe Kardashian began losing an incredible amount of weight, as working out on a regular basis helped her forget about the problems she was dealing with in her marriage. She concluded by saying, “When I started seeing that I could lose weight — because I just thought my body would never change — I started taking it more seriously and eating better.”
