‘Friday The 13th: The Game’ To Stream Gameplay Debut From E3, Here’s When And Where

Friday the 13th: The Game is having its big gameplay world premiere at E3 on Sunday night. The game, which is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and certainly the most anticipated among horror fans, has provided several teasers so far, but now people will finally get a chance to see what it’s like to actually play this long-awaited game.

The link in the below tweet will get you to the stream on Twitch on Sunday night at 8:45PM PST. Here, anybody will be able to check out the big gameplay reveal.

Friday the 13th: The Game actually began as a game called Summer Camp. From developer Gun Media, the game was about as close to the Friday the 13th franchise as one could get without actually having Jason Voorhees and the beloved (or reviled, depending on who you ask) title. The team had been working with several names associated with the franchise including make-up FX legend Tom Savini (Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter), composer Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th parts 1 – 6, 9, and 10), and Jason Voorhees himself, Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th parts 7 – 10).

Once Friday the 13th creator Sean Cunningham, who wanted to bring a new Friday the 13th video game to the masses, caught wind of Summer Camp, the team behind it, and the Friday the 13th-related talent involved, he gave Gun Media the go-ahead to operate as the official Friday the 13th: The Game, and a Kickstarter campaign was launched to raise funds to turn it into the ultimate Friday the 13th game that fans have always wanted. The campaign kicked off last fall, and now as Gun Media (along with Illfonic) has been working hard on meeting fan expectations, the time has come to show the world what it’s like.

Last month, Fangoria reported that Tom McLoughlin (director of Friday the 13th Part VI) boarded the team to write “The Pamela Voorhees Tapes,” which will be discovered throughout the game.

The publication had this to say about it:

Their locations will be randomly generated in the level, and there will be several to collect. Once the player discovers one, it simply drops into their inventory. They can listen to the tapes later, in the menu system.” Keltner [Wes, game creator, Gun Media Founder] elaborates, ‘The Pamela Tapes’ will provide some background to her story: How she came to Crystal Lake, her relationship with her son Jason and then the events surrounding his loss, and how this triggered a downward spiral in her sanity. FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME doesn’t have a traditional narrative,” he adds, “because we are multiplayer-focused. We want to include a single-player experience, but we need to hit our stretch goals to include that. But yes, we dig deeper into the canon of the franchise. Who better to help with that than Tom McLoughlin?”

Earlier this week, Gun Media took to its Facebook page to warn people that there are malware and phishing scams out there claiming to provide access to the game.

“Do not click, do not download and do not believe anything that doesn’t come from a reputable source,” it advised.

As Friday the 13th fans eagerly await the release of the game, they’re also waiting for the next movie, which has been teased practically since the release of the last one, which was all the way back in 2009. Rumors and updates on the film have been flying around all this time, but things seem to be moving forward.

As Inquisitr recently reported, the latest word on the movie is that it will be an origin story and feature other members of Jason’s family, such as his father. Fans of the series know Jason’s father as Elias Voorhees, though the character has never been featured in any of the films. He has appeared in a comic book. It is said that the character was to appear in several of the films in the franchise, including Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, and Freddy vs. Jason, but it never ended up happening.

As CinemaBlend and others have reported, while it was once rumored that the new movie would be shot in found footage style, that is no longer the approach they’re taking.

Friday the 13th: The Game will be released for XBox One, Playstation 4, and PC. It’s expected to ship in October.
