Microsoft Surface Pro 5 May Have Amazing 4K Display

Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 has been a huge hit and it looks like the Surface Pro 5 may be even better. Trusted Reviews has the news.

“A new report claims that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will feature a 4K Ultra HD display, which would be a first for the series. By contrast, the Surface Pro 4 has a maximum 2,736 x 1,824 pixel resolution.”

The article adds that the standard version of the Pro 5 may not have the 4K panel, but Microsoft might offer the display as a paid-for upgrade — this is what companies such as HP and Lenovo have been doing. This might not be a big deal to many consumers as the current 2,736 x 1,824 display is considered stunning. However, Trusted Reviews reveals that there will be a major upgrade on the processor for the Surface Pro 5.

“It’s also claimed that the Surface Pro 5 will feature Intel’s new 7th-generation Kaby Lake processors. The Kaby Lake processors aren’t out yet, but will arrive as a 14nm successor to Intel’s current-gen Skylake (also 14nm) microarchitecture. The Kaby Lake CPUs are expected to be more efficient, which could mean a better battery life for the end user,” claims columnist Sean Keach.

The rumors of the Surface Pro 5 release have been all over the place. A report by the site Northern Voices Online says the Pro 5 could be right around the corner, but a lot of people have considered the report false. On the other end of the spectrum, Yibada wants you to believe that the Surface Pro 5, along with the Surface Book, won’t be released until 2017.

“Microsoft has reportedly scheduled the Surface Pro 5 release date not this 2016 but in 2017, likely by springtime next year. But prior to that unboxing, which supposedly will also include the Surface Book 2, the tech giant will first introduce two editions of the Windows 10 Mobile-powered Surface Phone, a new report said.”

Microsoft’s Surface Pro line arrived to mixed responses in February of 2013. CNET was impressed with the device, but thought the poor battery life definitely took away from its appeal.

“I think I’m holding out for the inevitable Surface Pro 2 — the one that will undoubtedly offer better battery life and a host of other upgrades. This version makes strides, but it’s not the perfect laptop-killer yet,” said reviewer Scott Stein.

The Surface Pro 2 had improved battery life, but it wasn’t until the Surface Pro 3 when Microsoft could properly claim they had a hit laptop/tablet hybrid. The Verge gave Microsoft’s 2014 device an excellent review.

“The Surface Pro 3’s hardware is undoubtedly impressive. Although Microsoft calls it a tablet, it’s better to think of this Surface as a full-fledged PC that can work as a large tablet in a pinch. More than anything else, the Surface Pro 3 is the ideal physical form for Windows 8.1. Both the OS and the hardware feel like a computer with some (occasionally great) tablet features tacked on top.”

The Surface Pro 4 was released in late October of 2015 along with the Surface Book. Both devices arrived with problematic video drivers, touchpad drivers, and other issues.
