Paula Patton Has Moved On From Robin Thicke

Paula Patton is speaking out about her headline-making divorce from Robin Thicke. Nearly two years after the couple’s high-profile split, the Warcraft star told People that the key to getting through the divorce was to ignore the media coverage about her personal life.

“You just keep living your life and have faith that everything sorts itself out,” Patton said. “Focusing on what I have right now is really good and not be concerned with things I can’t control: How other people see me, what they say, it’s wasted energy for me and it’s never done me any good.”

Paula also said that she is now looking for more joy in her life after her tumultuous 10-year marriage.

“I want more joy. I want more happiness,” Patton said. “I have a beautiful son [Julian Thicke, 6]. I’ve been lucky to do what I’ve done and to focus on anything else is such a waste…What I’m striving for is to have more joy, play, have fun with this life. Growing older is a good thing in that way, right? Keep on trucking. You have to find the place where it gets comfortable and easier.”

While she has clearly moved on from her ex, Patton told Essence she has no idea what she’s doing when it comes to dating.

“It’s been fun and interesting and I’ve learned a lot about myself and a lot about a lot of other people and what I like and don’t like,” Paula said, before adding, “I haven’t been doing too much of it, it’s kind of strange. Listen, Robin and I, we… I met him when I was 15 years old, and I have no idea what I’m doing. But it’s exciting; it’s so fun. I’m having a blast.”

Paula did reveal one thing she is looking for when it comes to her next mate.

“You know what the biggest thing is for me? Somebody who really likes to have fun,” Paula said. “I want a man, but I want a man that also wants to embrace his inner child. You know? Laugh. Have fun. Enjoy the moment. I just, I want to be happy. Life is too short.”

While she’s waiting for Mr. Right, Paula Patton is perfectly happy focusing on herself — and it sounds like she’s getting good at it, too.

“It’s really nice, honestly, getting used to being alone,” Paula told Essence. “It’s freeing. It’s scary at the beginning. It’s really scary. But it’s something I’m coming to embrace.”

Paula Patton and Robin Thicke married in 2005 and welcomed their son, Julian, five years later. While a source told Us Weekly that the breakup had been “a long time coming,” the couple put on a united front.

In an interview on Oprah’s Next Chapter, Thicke described his union with Patton as a “functional dysfunctional marriage.” He also credited Paula with coming up with the idea for helping him come up with the idea for his racy “Blurred Lines” music video, which featured topless females. Robin called Paula a “wonderful, artistic partner,” but he did admit that there was some jealousy once his wife watched the video back.

Still, the singer revealed that his relationship with Paula was hot, hot, hot.

“The spice is not our problem,” he said of their marriage. “We’re over-spiced. We could probably take a few spices off the shelf.”

When he was still married to Paula, Robin Thicke was caught in an Instagram photo grabbing a female fan’s rear end at a Video Music Awards party. He joked to Oprah that there was “trick photography involved there,” but then he went on to explain that there was no jealousy on his wife Paula’s end.

“Let’s just say, everybody had a good time that night,” he said. “We’ve had some fun and wild parties during our illustrious marriage and now we realize, you know, you can’t even come into the after party without a confidentiality agreement now.”

While they had fun times together, the “Blurred Lines” singer also told Elle magazine that he and Paula were known to battle it out once in a while.

“Oh yeah! Lock up the golf clubs,” he said. “Just lock it up! If you don’t fight, then you don’t care. If you’re not fighting for the relationship, you need to move on.”

As it turns out, Paula Patton may have followed his advice.
