Barack Obama Jokes About Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders On ‘Tonight Show’

Barack Obama sat down with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday to record an interview to air Thursday night on The Tonight Show. With Bernie Sanders continuing to run against Hillary Clinton, the Senator from Vermont is set to meet with President Obama at the White House on Thursday, which is part of the reason that the POTUS had to do the interview with Fallon more than 24 hours before it will air on NBC Thursday night.

Many democrats have started to wonder whether or not Senator Sanders’ unrelenting campaign efforts will ultimately hurt Clinton’s chances of defeating Trump in November, especially given the fact that many Sanders supporters have already refused to back Hillary Clinton whether or not she is the Democratic presidential nominee in November.

When Fallon pressed Obama about whether or not Sanders is “ever going to drop out,” Obama sidestepped a direct answer, as seen in the clip below. Instead, the president said that his role in the matter is simply “to remind the American people that this is a serious job, this is not reality TV,” a refrain Obama has used repeatedly since the former star of Apprentice and Celebrity Apprentice locked up the Republican presidential nomination.

The host of The Tonight Show asked the president if he thought the GOP was happy with their candidate for November. Obama made a joke about how happy the Democrats were that they were facing Trump, but even he admitted that joke was “too easy.” Surprisingly (although this clip doesn’t allow for the president’s elaboration), Obama said that following his concerns about the Republican Party.

“The truth is, actually, I am worried about the Republican Party. I know that sounds… well, you know what that sounds like.”

Those who don’t “know what that sounds like” will have to watch President Obama’s interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday night. In a way, Donald Trump’s first significant experience in politics may have been in 2008 when he was leading the charge for Barack to present his birth certificate to prove he was born in Hawaii rather than Kenya, as many right-wing conspirators had suggested.

While most of the world have started to accept the fact that November’s election will almost certainly be between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Hillary’s strongest opponent in the Democratic race refuses to give up, even when the math suggests that the race is over. While the notion of asking Sanders to officially drop out of the race before he’s ready seems somewhat anti-democratic, many liberal politicians worry that Sanders staying in the race will only divide the Democratic Party, making the idea of “President Trump” an even more likely future for the United States.

Jimmy Fallon’s interview with Barack Obama will air on Thursday night’s episode of The Tonight Show on NBC hours after President Obama meets with Senator Bernie Sanders in the White House. As if having the POTUS on the show wasn’t a big enough attraction, Obama will be joined by music icon and living legend Madonna.
