Rose Leslie and Kit Harington did not get the chance to live off their dreams in Game of Thrones when Ygritte was killed near the end of Season 4. Now that Jon Snow is back because of Melisandre’s powers, does Rose want the same fate for her Wildling character?
In an interview with Standard Online , the 29-year-old said that while she had a “fabulous time” with boyfriend Kit on the HBO show’s set, she wouldn’t want to work with him again for an understandable reason.
“I’m now a little pile of ash. The writers are being incredibly loyal to the books and the way it’s developed, Jon Snow needs to be on his own and take charge of his own life. I think it’s a good thing that she died.”
Rose added that she’s a believer of doing things on your own. Her character was killed by an arrow launched by Olly, the same child responsible for delivering the final stab that ultimately led to Jon’s death. To be fair, Olly didn’t know that Ygritte was the woman Jon loved. All he saw was a Wildling girl who was out to kill the Night’s Watch men.
She once told Vulture that she wept when it was time to say farewell. She described her farewell as “wonderful” after the crew clapped and gifted her the bow Ygritte used. The bow’s handle was replaced with a strap that had a plaque that read, “Kissed by the fire.”
“We did that last scene – where I die in Jon Snow’s arms – on my last day, and I remember just crying profusely and going around to the crew at the end, and hugging everyone, and telling them I loved them.”
Ygritte, the one who started the often quoted “You know nothing, Jon Snow” line, died in her lover’s arms. In real-life, Rose and Kit have been dating on and off since 2012.
Just last month, the couple had a red carpet appearance in London in preparation for the Olivier Awards. Clad in a tuxedo, Kit was affectionate to his girlfriend who wore a sophisticated gold dress from Malene Oddershede Bach’s collection.
Emilia Clarke previously addressed the photos of Kit and Rose hugging and kissing each other. “My goodness! You know, we like to spread the love on our show. It’s a beautiful thing. She’s one of my best friends, so it’s good. I mean, there are worse things than being caught kissing Jon Snow!” she gushed.
Kit recently opened up about his lady love on The Jonathan Ross Show . While showing a photo of him and Rose, he admitted that he fell in love with her in Iceland. Speaking to L’Uomo Vogue , Kit described how he found it easy to fall in love with his co-star.
“Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love. If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.”
Apart from talking about the affairs of the heart, Kit also realized one thing when the former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch was killed. For ten months, the actor had to deny that his character would indeed come back.
“Having to maintain absolute secrecy for so long has been a formidable test for understanding the psychology of other people on the basis of assumptions made. What I realized is that many people feel they have a much stronger connection with Jon Snow than I do.”
Even his girlfriend joked about Jon’s resurrection. While she is “ecstatic” with how things turned out, she quipped that she is “going to have words” with Kit for keeping Jon’s return a secret for so long. As per previous reports, everyone in the cast had to use a secret code name for Jon while filming: “LC” which stands for Lord Commander.
