Intruder Forces Way Into Alabama Home, Gets Big Surprise From 11-Year-Old Boy

When one criminal decided to invade a Talladega, Alabama, home earlier this week, he probably didn’t think there would be someone home. But, an 11-year-old home schooled student had quite a surprise for the man who invaded his family’s home. Although he walked in the door, he definitely didn’t leave how he arrived. Now, the intruder has been hospitalized and the boy’s story is going viral because he refused to back down.

According to The Blaze, 11-year-old Chris Gaither was met with a relatively disturbing situation when a “would-be burglar” entered his home. Chris reportedly asked the intruder to leave, but initially the guy refused to back down.

While coming down the stairs, he allegedly told the boy he’d kill him while shouting expletives. Fearing for his life, the boy grabbed a nine millimeter handgun his stepfather taught him to shoot and began firing. The man attempted to leave the home carrying a hamper, but not before the unexpected occurred.

Although the boy missed the mark with the first 11 full-metal jacket bullets he fired, he managed to hit his target with the twelfth shot. The final bullet pierced the intruder’s leg which left him wailing in agonizing pain.

Needless to say, the intruder definitely wasn’t expecting the boy to shoot him and his reaction made his expectations quite evident. During a news interview with WVTM-TV, Chris recounted the series of events that led to the shooting and how the intruder reacted to being shot. After giving the intruder a fair warning, he still refused to back down. So, the boy did what he felt was necessary to protect himself.

“I told him I was going to kill him if he didn’t get out of my house,” Gaither said. “When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that,” Gaither added. “I shot through the hamper he was carrying. It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby,” said Gaither.

The suspect’s name still has not been released. But, it has been reported that he is in stable condition at Brookwood Health Center-Baptist Citizen’s Medical Center. The charges he’ll face have yet to be publicized, as the situation is still pending investigation. The boy concluded with a message for the intruder highlighting his hopes of the lesson he should learn based on the consequences he’s faced of his actions. “I hope you learn your lesson coming to this house trying to steal stuff.”

According the Daily Caller, a recent research analysis has cited the benefits of gun ownership where home invasions and robberies are concerned. The investigation, which centered around self-defense shootings from July 2014 to July 2015, revealed “hundreds of potential victims were saved by gun-toting Americans.”

Like the recent shooting involving Chris Gaither, an overwhelming number of gun carriers have been able to defend themselves in times of trouble where their lives were at risk. In similar cases, the victims fired at the intruders and left them wounded. Out of approximately 217 suspects, 148 of the would-be criminals were wounded or fled the scene of the crime after encountering gun-wielding victims. However, there were other cases where the criminals weren’t so lucky. Nearly 70 of the criminals were killed during these types of encounters.
