Katy Perry Launches New Makeup Line: She Grew Up In A ‘Sheltered Household,’ But Even Her Mom Encouraged Her To Wear Lipstick

Katy Perry, a modern-day pop legend, is in love and that’s no secret. Perry was spotted at Coachella with her current flame, Orlando Bloom. According to E! Online, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom were being very sweet with each other when they came in 20 minutes after The Kills started their set.

One of the concert goers spoke on how Perry and Bloom were during Coachella.

“They were hugging and with a group of other people. Orlando was behind her and swaying with her to the music. They also were vaping together. They were kissing and very much a couple.”

That Friday night, Perry and Bloom were also spotted watching Ellie Goulding’s set. People in attendance at the concert noticed that they looked happy together and that they made sure to stay close to each other as well even when they were in a group.

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom began their romance during the after-party of the Golden Globes, but they didn’t make the official announcement of their relationship until March.

Today also marks a special anniversary for Katy Perry, as it was eight years ago today that her debut number one “I Kissed a Girl” was released. The song brought the singer from relative obscurity into the spotlight, a position that she has steadily maintained ever since.

Not only is Katy Perry a consummate musician and entertainer, she’s also one of the most stylish pop stars today. So it comes as no surprise that, according to Vogue, Katy Perry and CoverGirl have collaborated to launch a lipstick line.

Ever since she kissed a girl and liked it, Perry has had a pretty obvious gravitation to the cherry red chapstick, or lipstick, that was mentioned in the lyrics of the song. Since the release of the iconic song, Katy Perry has oscillated between lipstick shades that are simple and classic, like her signature bright red shade, to shades that are more candy-like. Perry has launched her makeup line, to nobody’s surprise, in a collaboration with CoverGirl that features two mascaras and 13 shades of cool matte lipsticks that range from petal pink to pitch black. The makeup line was designed by Perry for her fans with the aim of making makeup experimentation accessible and affordable for anyone willing to try it.

Katy Perry spoke about her goal with CoverGirl and the collaboration.

“I wanted to push the envelope with CoverGirl. You know, a black lipstick or a blue mascara is very Tumblr — I told them, this is what’s happening online, this is what everyone’s Instagramming.”

The collaborative catalog of Katy Perry’s newly designed makeup sets will be officially called the CoverGirl Katy Kat Collection and will be hitting stores in May. The release will begin with the lipstick range only, followed shortly by the mascaras. Eleven lipstick colors will be available in Walmart as exclusive preorders.

Katy Perry’s new makeup line made its first appearance at Coachella, being worn and promoted by Katy herself and her friends. According to Perry, she and her friends picked a lipstick theme for each of the Coachella days, from being romantic Lolitas on one day to vampires on another.

Katy Perry spoke about her childhood and how makeup was a part of it.

“I was always experimenting with makeup.”

Explaining that she grew up in what she referred to as a “sheltered household” and not being allowed to experiment with risqué fashion, she was nevertheless allowed to, and even encouraged to, wear lipstick.

“My mom would say, ‘You should put on a little lipstick’ — from age 12! It was very strange, but I was wearing lipstick of all colors from 12 and 13. I’d use it on my cheeks, my eyes, and I was very into classic reds. When I started developing my own sense of style, I thought I was a pinup girl. I was obsessed with them at 13: I’d do a black liner and a red lipstick and that was my go-to.”
