The Rich Kids of Instagram Tumblr page has become the new hot item on the internet. And it’s pretty easy to see why.
People have a fascination with the rich and famous, and the Rich Kids of Instagram Tumblr page gives an unfiltered look (well, the pictures are actually extremely filtered via the photography app) at how kids with too much money waste too much money.
The site follows in the footsteps of shows like My Super Sweet 16, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, or Born Rich where people show off their excessive wealth.
But are the Rich Kids of Instagram showing off? Or are they just living their lives?
Annabel Schwartz, a 19-year-old girl from a wealthy family, came under public scrutiny after pictures from her decadent vacation in Saint-Tropez were shared online. But Schwartz said that she isn’t showing off her wealth. The 19-year-old said that she was a little embarrassed to find her photos on the site but also said that she wasn’t going to be ashamed of her wealth.
“My friends and I don’t want to be associated with this…. This is very embarrassing…. We all grew up quite nicely but I don’t want to be embarrassed by the fact that I can enjoy myself in Saint-Tropez… Everyone here considers themselves to be a lot more substantial than their father’s credit card. I’m a fashion designer. My girlfriend goes to Cornell. I don’t want to be represented by my money and my vacation experiences.”
Our culture seems to be fascinated with wealth and fame, but at the same time we’re deeply offended if anyone is truly enjoying their position in life.
