A 3-year-old girl was abandoned on Saturday at the Grove Shopping Center. As of Sunday morning, the Los Angeles Police Department are still trying to locate a parent or guardian, as reported by the Los Angeles Times .

The little girl was able to tell police that her name is Audrey, but could not provide a last name. Whittier News reports that Audrey did not give any other information to help police identify her or her family.

Parking attendants at the shopping center found the girl, and reported that Audrey had been dropped off at the valet parking around 6 p.m. by a young girl. Audrey was left in her car seat, but was never picked back up. The attendants immediately called to notify the police.

Once the police arrived, they took 3-year-old Audrey into protective custody, as Los Angeles Police Department Officer Drake Madison reported to Whittier News .

“She’s in good condition with the Department of Children and Family Services. We’re just trying to find out who she belongs to… It’s just a matter of time before someone knows who she is and we can locate a parent or guardian.”

ABC 13 reports that the police reviewed the video surveillance footage from the parking lot, but were unable to gather any helpful information because the footage was not clear.

Los Angeles police Lt. Lonnie Tiano hopes that they can get Audrey home safely soon, according to ABC 13 .

“We’ve been hoping all night that the parents or guardian would come forward and say, ‘where’s my child?’ We’re hoping it’s just a mix-up and a miscommunication at this point, but I can tell you that I’m much more at ease that we have a 3-year-old in our custody and we’re waiting for the parents than the other way and having the parents come here looking for their 3-year-old.”

Three-year-old Audrey has long dark hair and was wearing a pink shirt and purple pants at the time she was discovered at the mall.

Whittier News reports that “anyone with information about the girl is urged to call the Wilshire Area watch Commander at 213-473-0476. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.”
