Alessandra Ambrosio: Victoria’s Secret Model Opens Up About Diet, Fitness, And Losing Baby Weight


Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio looks great at 34-years-old, and the model recently shared that she only started to work out right before she walked the runway of Victoria’s Secret as one of the Angels.

In an interview with Net-a-Porter, Brazilian-born Alessandra shared that her family was not a fan of exercising.

“In my family, no one ever worked out. It wasn’t until I did my first Victoria’s Secret show that I started exercising.”

Alessandra recalls being 15-years-old and having her first salary. The model said that she would purchase bags of sweets at the supermarket and binge on cookies and ice cream. However, the Alessandra later trained herself to avoid partaking in unhealthy treats, as it made her feel horrible. In addition, Alessandra said that it helped to think that she would lose her job if she didn’t have self-control, as reported by People.

Alessandra Ambrosio even went to say that exercising was her “enemy” before she started loving the activity. We all know that Victoria’s Secret models have a strict exercise regimen in order to maintain their figure. After having her first child, Anja Louise, back in 2008, Alessandra learned the importance of exercising.

“Your body will never go back to exactly what it was before pregnancy, whatever people tell you. It can’t. But I think I have a better body now than before I had kids. It’s partly because I work out, whereas before I didn’t.”

According to ET Online, Alessandra Ambrosio only had three months to get back to her figure after giving birth to her first child before the Victoria’s Secret fashion show in 2008. She shared that she was on a 1,200-calorie diet to help her get back into shape.

“I was on this 1200-calorie-a-day meal-delivery service that I hated. I couldn’t do that again.”

When it comes to her diet, Alessandra says that she doesn’t deprive herself. Her trick is to eat in moderation and to eat different kinds of food everyday.

“Obviously I try not to splurge on pasta, but if I’m back in Brazil where everything is pasta- or bread-based – and so yummy – I’ll eat whatever I want, then go back to lots of salads and chicken or fish with veg as soon as I’m back in LA.”

Aside from having healthy eating habits, Alessandra Ambrosio has now learned to love working out. According to the model, she mixes up her exercise activities in order to be motivation and to prevent boredom. She does pilates, capoeira, weight training, and yoga.

Alessandra shares that the most stressful time for her is just before the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. As a way to relieve stress after the show, Alessandra said that her favorite thing to do is dance.

“It’s about being young, normal and carefree again.”

In the same interview with Net-a-Porter, Alessandra Ambrosio touched on the subject of her job as a model. While others retire early from modeling in their late 30s, Alessandra says that she would like to do it until she is in her 50s.

“I’m almost 35 and coming up to my 20th year in the industry. Although there might eventually come a time when I want to focus on other areas in my life, if I manage to keep going until I’m 50, like Cindy [Crawford], then great. You might die tomorrow after all, so why make decisions about what you will and won’t do now?”
