Watch Huge Donald Trump Rally In Rochester Full Replay: ‘Trump Train’ Set To Roll Over Cruz in New York, Polls Show

Donald Trump rolled his “Trump Train” — which is actually the Trump private plane — into Rochester, New York, for a huge rally from a giant airplane hangar in the western New York city, as Trump looks to solidify his already-large lead over his Republican rival Texas Senator Ted Cruz in the state.

Coming off a humiliating loss to Cruz in the Wisconsin primary on Tuesday, and more than a week of negative press coverage sparked by a serious of foot-in-mouth interviews given by Trump — most notably an MSNBC interview in which he called for “some form of punishment” for women who obtain abortions — polls show that the Ted Cruz momentum will be short-lived, as Donald Trump appears poised to deliver a crushing blow to Cruz in New York, Trump’s home state.

With the New York primary fast approaching on April 19, Western New York is suddenly popular with presidential candidates — a good strategy considering the complex system by which the state doles out its 95 delegates in the Republican primary.

The winner of the statewide primary gets 14 delegates — but only if that candidate earns more than 50 percent of the vote. Otherwise those 14 are allocated on a proportional basis to candidates who receive more than 20 percent.

The other 81 delegates are awarded by congressional district. New York has 27 districts, each with three delegates — meaning that, in effect, candidates are running in 27 separate elections, in addition to the statewide election. A candidate who wins more than 50 percent of the vote in a district gets all three delegates. Otherwise the two candidates with more than 20 percent split the three delegates, two to the candidate with more votes, one to the second-place finisher.

Follow that?

In any case, Donald Trump has such a wide polling lead that the only question is whether he can take more than 50 percent in the state and in the majority of congressional districts — or whether Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich can combine to hold Trump below that “winner take all” threshold.

Donald Trump has already begun campaigning to crush Cruz and the longshot Kasich, holding a massive rally in Bethelpage, on Long Island, New York, on Wednesday. Watch a full replay of the Bethelpage rally, which also featured a speech from Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump in the video below.

The latest poll, issued on April 6 by Monmouth University, showed Trump with a bruising, 27-point lead over Kasich, and an even more crushing 35-point lead over Cruz. More importantly, in the Monmouth poll, Trump tops the coveted 50 percent mark, with 52.

That means, if the Monmouth poll results hold through April 19, Trump will take all 14 of the statewide delegates and likely claim all three delegates in most of the individual congressional districts as well.

According to a polling average compiled by Real Clear Politics, Trump is at 53 percent, leading Kasich by 22 points and Cruz by 18.6.

Cruz and Kasich have pinned their hopes on stopping Trump from reaching the 1,237 delegate total that would give the New York real estate mogul the Republican nomination on the first ballot at the party’s national convention.

But with a big win in New York — a win that Donald Trump will attempt to solidify starting with his Sunday rally — Trump could have a clear path to that goal.
