WWE News: John Cena Gives Reason Why Reigns Isn’t Connecting With The Fans

Despite the great matches that will commence at WrestleMania 32, like Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker and Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar, the WWE Universe is still talking about Roman Reigns against Triple H. It’s easily the most-controversial match at WrestleMania 32. Whether the rumor is Reigns is turning heel, or that Triple H will get Shawn Michaels and company to help in the match, everyone is talking about that match.

Even if Reigns and Triple H isn’t the main event, it will still garner a lot of attention. This is for the WWE World Heavyweight championship. Something has to give when WWE officials decide the ending to this bout. This time last year, WWE Creative changed the ending to the main event of WrestleMania 31. Reigns was intended to walk out of Levi’s Stadium as the champion. Plans changed, and Seth Rollins cashed in and won the belt.

Rollins isn’t here to use his briefcase, so one of those two men will walk out the champion. If Triple H wins, it will be like Reigns’ ascension to the main event was for not. If Reigns is victorious, then nearly-100,000 people will boo the new WWE champion out of the building. Either way, the WWE is in a lose-lose situation here.

There has to be a reason why Reigns isn’t connecting with the bulk of the fans. Most of the kids and females like Reigns, but they aren’t the main demographic. Men, aged 25-54, are the primary demographic. John Cena, a man who is ironically popular with that age group, commented on why he thinks Reigns isn’t connecting with the fans.

“People know he is very gifted. His in-ring ability is not in question. I don’t care what any critic says. They are just being stupid. He can go. He is an athlete. I don’t really know who he is. Like I said, John Cena is easy: goody-two shoes. Superman. Easy. A four-year old kid can tell you that. I don’t necessarily know the heartbeat of Roman Reigns. As soon as that first heartbeat happens, it’s going to challenge me. I’m looking forward to it.”

What’s interesting about Reigns, is that he hasn’t missed that much time due to injury. Therefore, the WWE Universe doesn’t know what it’s like to not have Reigns on TV. It sounds obvious, but time off for a wrestler can either make or break that star. Take Cesaro, for example, as a person who will benefit from time off.

He can heal from his injury, yes, but his popularity will skyrocket once he returns. Chris Jericho is another one. He leaves and comes back as he pleases, or when it makes sense to start a storyline. So, as soon as Y2J comes back, he’s immediately loved by the WWE Universe.

This reporter spoke to Roman Reigns about that revelation and how he stays healthy.

“It’s been a little bit of everything you said. That’s the toughest part we have is recovery. It’s pretty much impossible for us to recover every night. So, a lot of it comes from how you get there. Like, what are you eating? What are you putting in your body,” said Reigns.

“I think one of the things that’s really helped me is that I’ve stretched a lot more before and after workouts.”

In just over 24 hours, Roman Reigns is in for the biggest match of his career thus far, as he fights Triple H for the WWE championship. He’s a different opponent than Lesnar, as Triple H is called the “Cerebral Assassin” for a reason.

“He’s very smart. He’s always thinking, so I think he’ll have a better-layered game plan. Brock, I think just goes in there and tries to beat you with pure strength and power. He doesn’t think about how too often. He just goes.”

Who will walk out as WWE champion? It will be either Triple H or Roman Reigns. The better question is, who will walk out as face and heel?
