Ashley Graham Lashes Out At ‘Maxim’ Cover Critics

Ashley Graham has been in news ever since she graced the cover of Sports Illustrated, the Inquisitr reported. There have been several Sports Illustrated covers in the past, but none with plus-size models on it.

Ashley’s latest achievement is her Maxim cover, which has unfortunately been criticized by her fans. On the Maxim cover, the plus size model wears only a shirt. The text that ran across the picture was: “Natural beauty turned brand builder.” It seemed like her Instagram followers were not exactly happy when the model shared the picture with her fans.

Maxim obviously edited her photo to make her appear slimmer,” said one.

“Natural beauty???? You mean photoshopped beauty,” said another.

Yet another commented on the size of her arm, stating, “Her arm is usually bigger than that in her other photos.”

“She looks tiny on this cover,” said one follower and added a frown.

“That is unfortunate after everything you stand for Ashley.. your curves are gorgeous and Maxim should not have minimize who you are…shame on them!” said yet another.

Do you think Ashley looked photoshopped on the cover of Maxim? Ashley thinks not. She said she is very proud that she is the first curvy model to be on the cover and that she wasn’t slimmed down.

“I’m beyond proud to be the first curvy woman on the cover of Maxim,” Graham, 28, shared in a statement, according to Us Weekly. “I was not slimmed down on the cover, and [photographer] Gilles Bensimon did an amazing job capturing my true figure in all of the photos.”

Ashley instead went on to say that it is an advancement for curvy women, and women like herself work really hard to get the recognition they deserve.

“This is another major advancement for curvy women, especially those who work in the fashion industry who are working hard to get the recognition they deserve,” she said. “I now encourage more publications and designers to put more diversity on their covers and runways. Let’s continue to show that beautiful bodies come in different sizes and they should all be celebrated.”

Graham released the statement two days after her Maxim cover was unveiled. From Ashley’s statement, it seemed like she is not really bothered by what people have to say. She will continue to celebrate her shape and size. There were several fans who made sure they supported the curvy beauty.

“How did it feel to be on the cover of Maxim?” asked a follower. “I’m so happy you’re part of the movement and an advocate for beauty that comes in different sizes, shapes, and colors.”

Ashley has become a pro at handling jibes about her dress size and her curves. She was recently criticized by Cheryl Tiegs, a former Sports Illustrated model who was not really happy that Ashley was on the cover of SI.

According to the Inquisitr, she went on to say, “Actually I don’t like it that we’re talking about full figured women because it’s glamorizing them because your waist should be smaller than 35 [inches]. That’s what Dr.Oz said and I’m sticking to it.”

Ashley was great about handling criticism from her.

“Oh my goodness. It’s so interesting because Cheryl has been an inspiration because she is a Sports Illustrated girl for so long and I think what this is doing is proving that beauty does come in all shapes and sizes and I applaud Sports Illustrated.”

And when Cheryl Tiegs received criticism about her comment, she quickly clarified her comment and said, “To clarify re body weight. Being anorexic/bulimic/overweight all connected to health problems. I want all to be as healthy as they can.”
