Justin Bieber Taking Flack For Racist Comment

Justin Bieber really put his foot in his mouth in a recent interview he gave to Rolling Stone magazine. The teen heartthrob was talking about his ancestry and he mentioned that in his background he had a bit of Native American.

Bieber told the interviewer,

“I’m actually part Indian. I think Inuit or something? I’m enough percent that in Canada, I can get free gas.”

After he made the comment he started to get complaints from many of the groups that represent native peoples in Canada. The Congress of Native Peoples issued a statement saying that what Justin Bieber said was flat out false.

The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples also decided to jump right into the fray and had this to day about the Biebs,

“These kinds of remarks are another example of what Aboriginal peoples in Canada struggle with every day. It promotes the misconception that we are somehow getting a free ride. This simply is not the case and we are concerned that many people may believe what he said.”

As can be expected by these types of things, the internet blog community has gotten themselves a little crazy over the controversy and there have been articles written slamming Bieber for his uncalled for and racist statement. The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples, while disapproving of the statement by Bieber has also asked the public to cut Bieber some slack.

Bieber has not issued a formal response to the controversy nor has he addressed the issue of his Native American heritage again since the original interview.
