‘Flying Saucer UFO’ Stolen From Roswell UFO Museum [Video]

A “flying saucer UFO” that was displayed for decades on a corner of the wall outside the International UFO Museum & Research Center building on South Main Street in Roswell, New Mexico, went missing on Sunday mysteriously.

The silver-colored mock-up of a flying saucer UFO made of fiberglass and stainless steel had served as mascot for the museum since it opened in 1992. It was first displayed at the museum’s former location on Fourth Street.

It was stolen while being stored temporarily under an awning behind the museum building after it was knocked down from its mount on the wall during blizzard Goliath last winter.

It had been repaired and was awaiting re-installment at the time it was stolen.

Roswell Police Department, whose headquarters building is just around the corner from the International UFO Museum, startled its social media followers on Monday with a post to its Facebook page that announced the police department was looking for a “missing spaceship” stolen from the UFO museum.

“Be on the lookout: missing spaceship,” the title of the message said.

The Facebook post, which has received hundreds of comments and likes, continued, “There are certainly a good number of spaceships in Roswell, but if you happen to see one that looks a little out of place, please give RPD a call.”

Karen Jaramillo, interim executive director for the museum, told the local news station KRQE News 13, “We had just had it prepared, and we were going to put it back up but we had it temporarily stored behind our building and they, some kids came and stole it.”

Jaramillo added that the museum has given police investigators surveillance video that could help them track the UFO thieves.

According to police, the surveillance video shows the “spaceship” being taken away by three people at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. It shows a red pickup truck entering the back alley and three people loading the flying saucer onto the bed of the pickup before driving off.

Police said the vehicle must have been very conspicuous on the road, because the UFO was wider than the pickup bed. Thus, it was likely the thieves were spotted while driving the UFO away.

Jaramillo told Albuquerque Journal, “It’s a historical piece of our building. It was just fiberglass and a stainless steel bowl wrapped with rope lights that changed colors at night. It’s sad that it is not with us anymore. We hope it is returned.”

Social media users struggled to explain why anyone would steal the old museum mascot. Some Facebook users wondered tongue-in-cheek whether the “UFO” was taken by Roswell aliens who wanted their UFO back and gave the police department advice to call Fox Mulder to open an “X-Files” investigation.

A social media user suggested that police seek help from the North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) which should have information about the whereabouts of the UFO being “charged with the missions of aerospace warning and aerospace control for North America.”

A skeptic suggested tongue-in-cheek that it could be a weather balloon that actually went missing and not a flying saucer. The social media user was spoofing the U.S government’s announcement in 1947, following media reports that a UFO had crashed at Roswell, that it was only a weather balloon that crashed.

Roswell is famous worldwide as the site of an alleged UFO crash in 1947. The town is the world’s most famous UFO tourism destination, attracting thousands of UFO enthusiasts from around the world every year. The town holds an annual UFO festival to celebrate the famous 1947 event.

The alleged UFO crash at Roswell has been the subject of decades-old conspiracy theories. UFO conspiracy theorists insist that the U.S. government recovered a flying saucer UFO from a ranch near Roswell. The UFO was transported secretly to the top-secret USAF Area 51 facility in Nevada where top government scientists and engineers worked secretly to reverse-engineering the advanced alien technology, according to UFO conspiracy theorists.

Some conspiracy theorists also claim that the military authorities recovered alien corpses and alien survivors from the crash site. The corpses and the survivors were taken secretly to Area 51 where the survivors were forced to assist the U.S. government to reverse-engineer the crashed flying saucer.
