A mystery woman who took part in the Indian delegation march in the Olympics Opening Ceremony has been identified as a member of the opening ceremony cast, who got a little “over-excited” during the procession.

Like every other country in the ceremony, the Indian delegation had a flag bearer to lead the procession, a female sign holder, and a young child ambassador. Behind the three, the nation’s athletes proudly marched in yellow saris and turbans. But the mystery woman was also present, dressed in a red sweater and teal pants, waving and cheering like she was supposed to be, according to Yahoo News .

On Sunday, the mystery woman with the Indian delegation was finally unmasked, as London organizing chairman Sebastian Coe revealed:

“She was a member of the [Opening Ceremony] cast who got slightly over excited. “We had suspected she was probably a member of the cast, but she clearly started in that venue and we will be speaking to the Indian delegation about that.”

The New York Daily News notes that India’s Olympic chief, Muralidharan Raga was upset about the woman’s stunt, and stated of the mystery woman, who is likely Madhura Nagendra, a grad student from India’s southern city of Bangalore that:

“She had no business to walk in with the Indian contingent and we are taking up the issue with the organizers. We don’t know who she is and why she was allowed to walk in. It is a shame that she was with the athletes in the march past.”

Coe assured, however, that the woman’s presence at the Olympic stadium was not a breach of security, as some have claimed, but that she had been screened and allowed into the stadium as one of the 10,000 volunteers that performed next to professional musicians, actors, and dancers in the 2012 Opening Ceremonies. Coe stated, “Don’t run away with the idea that she walked in off the street.”

Do you think that the mystery woman with the Indian delegation in the Olympics Opening Ceremonies shows a lack of security?
