‘Deadpool’ Crosses Huge Box Office Milestone
Deadpool has been a huge box office smash for 20th Century Fox. It’s already grossed over $628 million at the worldwide box office from just a $58 million budget, and it has now been confirmed that the superhero adaptation will pass $300 million domestically at some point today.
Before the release of Walt Disney’s Zootopia, as well as London Has Fallen and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Deadpool had spent 21 days at the top of the American box office. Zootopia will stop its sensational stay atop the grossing charts this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that Deadpool isn’t still pulling in remarkable numbers, considering that it was released over three weeks ago.
Before the start of this weekend, Deadpool had earned $294.76 million domestically since hitting cinemas on February 12. Its already passed Man Of Steel’s U.S. haul, while it’s believed that it will ultimately move past Iron Man 2‘s $312 million total at some point in the near future, too.

In fact, Deadpool has performed so remarkably that it will eventually gross the highest ever domestic total for an X-Men film. Which, considering that its budget was only $58 million and 20th Century Fox had serious reservations about even putting Deadpool into production because of its R-rating, has been a sensational performance.
Deadpool is the eight installment to the X-Men franchise, and it revolves around Ryan Reynolds’ titular character, who before turning into the vigilante was known as the ex special forces agent Wade Wilson. But after being diagnosed with cancer throughout his body, Wade Wilson undergoes a hugely experimental treatment.
As a result of this treatment, Wade Wilson finds that he has accelerated healing factor, but he’s also left horribly deformed. In order to achieve this condition, Wade Wilson was subjected to horrible and brutal treatment and abuse by Ed Skrein’s Ajax.
After breaking free of the treatment center, Ryan Reynolds seeks out Ajax for revenge, which ultimately sees his girlfriend, Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa Carlysle, used as leverage. Deadpool has to resort to asking for the assistance of X-Men’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Colossus (Stefan Kapicic).
Because of Deadpool’s monumental box office success, a superhero sequel to the blockbuster was ordered before it was even released. It was a simple choice for 20th Century Fox after the film’s ingenious marketing campaign connected with a comic-book audience that was eager to see a new take on the genre.
Deadpool 2 will see Ryan Reynolds return as the titular character, while director Tim Miller and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have all confirmed that they will return in their creative capacities, too.
But Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are insistent that, despite the huge success of the original, the Deadpool sequel shouldn’t become bloated and expensive. Instead, it should embrace the qualities that made the original so successful.

Speaking to Collider, via Screen Rant, Deadpool’s writers remarked, “I think at this stage in the game it’s about taking other people and dropping them into this reasonably insular, gritty, urban, dark world of Deadpool.”
They continued, “We don’t want $150 million to go make the next movie, that’s not Deadpool. Deadpool doesn’t lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that’s just not Deadpool. So we’re happy in that little small budget range that they have us in; we don’t wanna blow this next one out.”
“I think there’s a real conceptual difference between taking other characters and big things and bringing them into Deadpool’s reasonably small, gritty world and the opposite, taking Deadpool and placing him among big ensembles who are fighting aliens or in the future where he and Cable are doing something in the future.”
