Nina Dobrev And Ian Somerhalder Avoid Each Other At Oscar Parties

Nina Dobrev and ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder both attended Oscar parties over the weekend, but The Vampire Diaries stars managed to avoid running into one another while they celebrated Hollywood’s biggest night with their fellow thespians.

Nina Dobrev attended the 2016 Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday night, and she looked stunning in a blush gown with sparkly floral accents. According to Just Jared, her sophisticated dress was designed by Elie Saab.

Bustle reports that Nina Dobrev also partied hard at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last year, but it wasn’t the only star-studded event that she graced with her appearance. According to Just Jared, Nina and her BFF, Dancing with the Stars judge Julianne Hough, also attended the 2015 Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscar Viewing Party together before they capped off the night at the Vanity Fair bash.

Just Jared reports that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder attended Elton John’s party together in 2013, just two months before they broke their fans’ hearts by breaking up.

Nina skipped the Elton John viewing party this year, and this could be because Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed decided to attend the event together. Ian and Nikki made Glamour‘s list of “the cutest couples” at the party. Other pairs who partied the night away at the celebrity soiree included DWTS couple Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson, Sarah Hyland and Dominic Sherwood, and Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik.

According to GMA News, Nikki Reed wore an elegant embroidered Francis Libiran gown to Elton John’s annual viewing party. However, everyone’s focus wasn’t on her gorgeous dress—she stood out at the event because she was sporting some very vampy dark purple lipstick. It’s safe to say that she and Ian Somerhalder didn’t do much smooching while they were at the party.

Fans of The Vampire Diaries who have closely followed Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder since their 2013 split might be surprised that Nina avoided her ex by skipping the Elton John party this year. Time and time again, Nina has stated that there’s no bad blood between herself and her ex, and she’s even insisted that she and Ian remained friends after their breakup.

“I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him,” Dobrev told E! News. “And that didn’t change. Yes, we’re professional and that’s fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now.”

If Nina Dobrev is actively trying to avoid Ian Somerhalder, this could be bad news for fans of The Vampire Diaries, who want to see the former lovers appear together at least one more time before the CW series wraps up. As the Inquisitr previously reported, executive producer Caroline Dries wants Nina to come back for the series finale, but Ian has said that he’s happy with the direction the show has taken since Nina left last year. According to Ian, the focus should be on the Salvatore brothers’ relationship, not Delena’s love story.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder’s relationship might not be as friendly as it was while they were still working together, but it’s possible that Ian wasn’t the real reason that Nina skipped the Elton John Oscar party. According to E! News, Nina and Austin Stowell broke up after seven months of dating sometime early last month or late in January. The Bridge of Spies star was Nina’s first long-term boyfriend after her split from Ian, so the breakup was probably pretty rough on her. Austin revealed that he attended the Elton John party on his Instagram page. If Nina was aware that he was going to be there, it’s possible that she skipped the event to avoid a painful encounter with him.
