WWE News: D-Von Dudley Testifies On Surprise Return & ‘Wrestlemania’

D-Von Dudley was a recent guest of an Indianapolis radio station 93.1FM WIBC, promoting this week’s episode of Smackdown! which emanated from Indy. D-Von and the hosts discussed the current product and a myriad topics in wrestling for nearly 10 minutes. D-Von, along with his tag team partner Bubba Ray, returned to the WWE in the summer of 2015 to provide a boost to the tag team division. Wrestlemania is right around the corner, and D-Von said he is looking forward to being part of an event that has a chance to break the attendance record previously set at Wrestlemania 3, as transcribed by Wrestling Inc.

Wrestlemania is truly the granddaddy of them all. In terms of sports entertainment, there is nothing like Wrestlemania. You’re looking at 100,000-plus people that [are] probably going to be in Dallas and that is probably going to be a record in itself because, remember, Wrestlemania 3 broke an indoor attendance record of 93,173 people. So, to be able to shatter that record at WrestleMania 32, this is going to be great. I’m excited for it.”

D-Von and Bubba Ray, aka The Dudley Boys, recently turned heel. The most decorated tag team in WWE history attacked The Uso’s on a recent episode of Monday Night RAW and promised to do away with their signature table spots in the process. This has prompted many to speculate that the Dudleys, Usos and The New Day, will be involved in a major triple-threat match for the tag team titles at Wrestlemania. There’s also a chance that two members of the League of Nations could be involved judging by recent interactions between them and the tag team champions. D-Von and Bubba Ray will certainly attempt to carve out a new Wrestlemania moment, but it will be hard to top D-Von’s most memorable to date.

“I think what stands out the most [are] the TLC matches that we had with the Hardys and Christian and Edge, which [are] being talked about even to this day. Wrestlemania 17 was truly a day that I don’t think any of us, the [six] of us, will ever forget. We created history. We helped steal the show at Wrestlemania that year and to be able to do that with such names as The Rock, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, The Big Show, Mick Foley, to have guys like that, Undertaker, Kane, on the card, and for us to be able to do that, that was amazing.”

Surprises come few and far between anymore in the wrestling business due to social media and wrestling reporters being more prevalent than ever. WWE was able to keep Shane McMahon’s return a secret, and provided the WWE Universe with the most memorable moment of the last five years. On the flip side, AJ Styles’ debut was hardly a secret. Bubba Ray made a surprise return at the 2015 Royal Rumble, and reuniting with D-Von to shock the fans in August 2015 was equally surprising. D-Von detailed how they were able to keep things under wraps.

“Well, there [were] three, no, four or five people that knew we were coming back. And when you work for Vince McMahon, and he tells you, ‘don’t open your mouth,’ you don’t open your mouth. We’re in this world where everything is found out because of social media and we were happy we were able to keep that on lockdown and it didn’t get out. And the surprise at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was incredible. I told my family, I said, ‘if I die tomorrow, I’ll be okay’ because the ovation we got when we came back, I don’t think we ever predicted that would happen.”

It was truly a special moment, and hopefully D-Von and Bubba Ray will lend a hand in creating another one at Wrestlemania. Oh, my brother, testify!
