Greg Vaughan Scores New Gig: Where Is The ‘Days Of Our Lives’ Star Headed Next?

Days of Our Lives fans have been quite upset by the news that Greg Vaughan will be leaving the role of Eric Brady this spring, and many had been hoping he would perhaps head to General Hospital to once again play the role of Lucky Spencer. The good news now coming out is that Vaughan has scored a new gig. The bad news, however, is that it’s not with one of the soaps where fans have grown to love him.

Greg Vaughan himself shared the big news via his Twitter page. He is now in New Orleans working on a new show for OWN called Queen Sugar. This is a new series that is in development right now, with Selma director Ava DuVerney and Oprah Winfrey behind it. What’s the scoop on the new show?

According to Michael Fairman On Air, On Soaps, the show is centered around sisters Charley and Nova Bordelon. Nova is an activist and journalist, while Charley is a wife and manager of an NBA star who moves back to the New Orleans area after building a life in Los Angeles.

Charley, along with her daughter Micah, head back to the area after inheriting a sugarcane farm from her father. Nova and Charley also have a brother named Ralph who just got out of jail and is trying to redeem himself, and there will be an ex-wife and child of his in the picture as well.

Variety notes that the siblings are estranged as the series begins, but after their father dies, they have to come together again to take care of the struggling sugarcane farm. The new series is based on the book Queen Sugar by Natalie Baszile.

IMDb notes that Rutina Wesley will play Nova, and many will recognize her from prior roles on Hannibal as Reba McClane or True Blood as Tara Thornton. Actress Dawn-Lyn Gardner, who played Steela Gerrera in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, plays Charley, and actor Kofi Siriboe from Awkward plays brother Ralph.

What role will Vaughan play in Queen Sugar? Teasers from Deadline indicate that Greg scored the role of Calvin, a police officer who has a long and intimate history with Nova.

While Nova and Calvin have been longtime lovers, it seems he may be married to someone else despite the intense connection he has with Bordelon. This role sounds like a juicy and meaty one that will give Vaughan plenty to sink his teeth into in this first season.

Greg Vaughan is expected to air on Days of Our Lives until April, and he has indicated that the door will be left open for Eric Brady to return to Salem at some point. As soon as the news came out that the actor was leaving DOOL, buzz ramped up that perhaps he could reprise his role as Lucky Spencer on General Hospital.

Vaughan seemed open to the idea of tackling the character of Lucky again. However, as GH fans know, there is a bit of an issue at the moment with contract negotiations that could lead to Rebecca Herbst’s departure. If Liz were to leave General Hospital, or if the show chose to recast her, the timing may not be right for Vaughan to return even if he were available.

A premiere date for Queen Sugar has not been detailed yet, although the show is expected to debut sometime in 2016. Will you be checking out the new OWN show when it begins to check out Greg Vaughan’s new role?
