‘The Good Wife’ Spoilers: Carrie Preston’s Eccentric Lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni Gets One Last Adventure Before Series Finale

Since The Good Wife announced it would be finishing at the end of its current season, there has been much talk about the interesting supporting players that have brought unique flair to the episodes over the past seven years. One of those players is Elsbeth Tascioni, the creatively-minded lawyer. On Sunday night’s installment, Carrie Preston returns to the role of Elsbeth, as she works with Alan Cumming’s Eli Gold to determine what interest the FBI has in Alicia Florrick’s often-embattled husband Peter.

In the lead-up to the episode, Carrie Preston spoke with media about her memorable character, who garnered her an Emmy win. Preston told E! Online that she’ll miss playing Tascioni but is proud of her contributions to The Good Wife. She revealed her plans to watch Elsbeth’s final episode from home and expects it to be an emotional evening.

“[Elsbeth will] just sort of live on as part of a great show that really made impact culturally and in the television landscape. I’m very proud of it. I think it’s going to be sad for me on Sunday night, watching it.”

Elsbeth Tascioni has been part of The Good Wife since season 1, and is known for her eccentricity and brilliance. The character has never made an attempt to hide her unique perspective on a case or situation, an aspect that Preston told E! she will miss bringing to life.

“It’s so just free and mercurial and unexpected. You’re always surprised where she goes.

“It was almost like I was sitting down and mapping out the way to Treasure Island every time. I’ll definitely miss that particular way of working.”

As previously reported by Inquisitr, Good Wife producers Robert and Michelle King said they were open to a potential spinoff that would feature some of the series’ supporting characters. The Kings expressed enthusiasm at the idea of a show without Alicia Florrick at the center. Tascioni has been identified as one possible spinoff star.

Although Preston is currently scheduled to star in the NBC comedy Crowded, and therefore might not be able to be at the helm of a Tascioni spinoff, she told TV Guide she was not ruling out the possibility. She cited working with the producing team of Robert and Michelle King and playing Elsbeth as two factors that would bring her back.

“I’m just so honored that they would highlight my character and say, ‘Yeah, we wanna see more of her.’ I’m open to anything and I certainly would love to work with them again.

“Even if this is it for me, I’d like to think that Elsbeth is going to continue on and do her thing. Elsbeth is an unlikely superhero.”

Crowded stars Preston and Patrick Warburton as a couple whose adult children move back home. It is set to debut on March 20. Due to her filming schedule with Crowded, Carrie Preston was only able to commit to one last hurrah for Elsbeth Tascioni.

Elsbeth won’t be the only guest star making a last appearance on The Good Wife as the series wraps up. The Kings said negotiations were still in the works for many of the show’s famous faces. Gary Cole, who plays Diane Lockhart’s conservative Republican husband, was specifically mentioned by the producers.

The Good Wife airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on CBS. The series finale will be broadcast on Sunday, May 8, 2016.
