iPhone 7 Release Date: News And Rumors About Features And Specs

Looking back at Apple’s traditions in unveiling new iPhone models, the iPhone 7 is most probably set to release in the fall this year. The previous versions, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, debuted on September 9 last year and hit stores on September 25, and the next major update is also said to come around the same time this year in 2016.

Though there have been no official declarations made yet, the company’s next big event is rumored to happen in March 2016. With Apple Watch releasing in April 2016, the event might be a platform to announce the new iPhone successor. However, the most likely announcement would be the release of iPhone 6C, an update to replace the old iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5se, a small 4-inch version of the phone.

General speculations, clues, and hints about the iPhone 7 have already circulated through the media, and here is a brief of what is being rumored:

  • Apple will be launching two new iPhones this year in September, and maybe a third one too. Though the release of iPhone 7 earlier in summer seems unpredictable, a new 4-inch iPhone is lining up to debut this autumn which might release as soon as in March 2016.
  • iPhone 7 is expected to be a 4.7-inch phone and a bigger version which is 5.5-inch is said to be the iPhone 7 Plus. New rumors regarding a new 4-inch model, the iPhone 5se has also arisen, which according to 9to5Mac is not an iPhone 6 in a smaller case.
  • The iPhone 7 will undergo a major redesign including the most talked about removal of the headphone jack. The “no headphone jack” rumors have started to get a lot of momentum, though there is no firm evidence to support the claim.
  • The new iPhone 7 might have a better battery life when compared to that of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. However, Jony Ive comments that Apple does not consider a higher battery life to be worth a significant sacrifice. It’s agreeable because larger-screen iPhones have a decent battery performance.
  • Although a rise in the pixel density further than the 326 ppi in non-Plus iPhones and 401 ppi in Plus models is unlikely, Apple might look to catch-up against its rivals regarding screen resolution and come up with a higher pixel density in the iPhone 7. It’s also been said that Apple might come up with a sapphire display for iPhone 7 just like in the higher-end Apple Watch models.
  • In terms of storage offering, the iPhone 7 is set to start at 32GB along with the two other options at 64GB and 128 GB.
  • Apple also has no plans for 3D screens right now on iPhone 7 while the new model won’t have a curved display as well. An edge-to-edge display is a possibility while wireless charging is almost sure to be included.

While the rumors about no headphone jacks have angered iPhone fans, we could also see a new technology called D Jack, with a diameter of just 2mm come into play as Apple has patented on the same.

“Apple has patented a shrunken-down headphone connector that shaves precious volume off existing 3.5mm and 2.5mm jack standards by reshaping the plug, thereby removing — albeit temporarily — an inevitable limiting factor in its quest for perpetually thin smartphones”, reports AppleInsider.

It has also been rumored that Apple will enable a Lightning port to resolve the issues with headphones in iPhone 7. However, it’ll be difficult for users who want to listen to music while charging phones that way.

A new iOS update 9.3 beta has also revealed several additional features that are said to be used with the iPhone 7. Jailbreaker @kyoufujibaya reveals that new Li-Fi technology will come with iPhone 7 which will make wireless data transfer 100 times faster compared to Wi-Fi.
