Brie Larson’s Shyness Dichotomy: Comfortable Performing But ‘Friend’s Birthday Party, I’d Have A Heart Attack’
Brie Larson is all the talk this awards season. She has already won the Best Actress Award at the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards and she has been nominated for the Academy Award, as well. All of this recognition has come from Larson’s portrayal of Ma in the movie Room.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Brie Larson about her new-found success after 20 years of climbing the movie industry ladder to make it in the biz. What Brie Larson has discovered is that her life is much like Room.
“I can’t help but trip out about how similar my life is to Room. It’s me wanting to stay in my own little bubble and remain anonymous and invisible and at the same time needing to step up to this hand that I’ve been given.”

Larson went on to talk about how the past year has been for her.
“Every single step of this last year has been a completely new experience and one that is totally outside of my comfort zone. I keep asking myself: How will my life be different? I have no idea. In this industry, where things change so quickly, I’ve found that having no expectations is the happiest way to go.”
Apparently, the fact that Brie Larson became an actress at all is quite a feat considering how shy she was as a child. The Straits Times reports that Larson spoke of how shy she was when she was young and how her mother must have laughed when she said she wanted to be an actress.
“I was really, really shy as a kid, so I know when I apparently told my mum I knew what my dharma was and that I wanted to be an actor, she must have laughed. There’s this dichotomy I had to deal with where performances were perfectly comfortable, but going to a friend’s birthday party… I’d have a heart attack.”

So what inspired this shy young Brie Larson to pursue a career in acting?
“I think I was always a little sponge as a kid and I was always looking for more information constantly. In order to keep up, I burned through all of our VHS Tapes – Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty, Sesame Street. My mum was trying to entertain us with Gone with the Wind and Fried Green Tomatoes. She just put those on and I got obsessed. I made all these re-creations of Gone with the Wind.”
Brie Larson has made a name for herself acting in a drama, but People reports that she worked with funny lady Amy Schumer in Trainwreck and she would like to work with Schumer again. Larson spoke about working with Schumer.
“I thought, ‘Before I go away and be a monk, I’ll do this fun thing, laugh my *ss off and eat whatever I want.’ “

Brie Larson has much love and regard for Schumer.
“Amy allows us to laugh about things that have been [taboo] for so long. [Society’s] feeling is: ‘Do not discuss. Don’t you dare.’ And Amy says, ‘Why? Being a human is super funny.’ “
