Kelis Owes Taxes All Over The United States

Milkshake singer Kelis owes taxes all over the United States. With a myriad of celebrities being audited by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) over the last several years you would think celebrities would consider themselves at a high risk for audits, yet Kelis owes money not just in New York state as originally reported but also in California and to the federal government.

It turns out that in 2004 and 2010 Kelis failed to make her tax payments and in New York alone she owes $330,426.71.

Now TMZ has discovered that the singer also owes $61,737.29 to the state of California for the 2009 and 2010 tax years and $213,932.02 to the Federal government for those same years.

In case you are keeping track at home that would be a total of $606,096.12 in unpaid taxes, plus any penalties she racks up before paying off her huge tax bill.

Kelis is going to need to sell a whole lot of milkshakes if she wants to pay off that tax debt.

Apparently tax dodging runs in the family, ex-husband and famed rapper NAS filed liens for three years in a row and reportedly owes the government $6 million for a property he owns in Eagles Landing, Georgia.

Whether Kelis’ issues are an accounting problem or a direct attempt to scam her way out of taxes is not known at this time. In any case the IRS does not care who made the mistake when it comes to tax filing they just want their money and they typically want it pretty darn fast.
