WWE News: Vince McMahon Removed Alcohol, Drugs From Locker Room

In WWE news, MVP revealed during a recent podcast interview that Vince McMahon has cleared the WWE locker room of alcohol and drugs, according to Wrestling Inc.

“There’s no beer in the locker room now. Now, there are protein shakes. There has been an evolution, and I have to give Vince McMahon credit for cleaning that up because that was a scourge. That was a huge problem, and I’ve got a lot of colleagues and a few friends that have died from drug abuse, specifically, in the professional wrestling industry.”

The wrestling industry has changed a lot over the years, and Vince McMahon deserves a large chunk of the credit for that because he owns the biggest wrestling promotion in the world.

Back in the 1980s, partying was rampant in the professional wrestling industry, as guys were able to fill up an entire library of books from their various drinking stories on the road.

It was a tradition for a lot of these guys to work their matches, get paid, go backstage, and have a couple of beers to warm themselves up before everyone can go out and find a local bar.

Since it was like the wild west back then, it would not come as a shock that some of the wrestlers would even have a beer or two before they went out to the arena and performed.

There are stories floating around that whenever you partied with Ric Flair, you’re going to eventually end up seeing his genitals at some point in the night, because things were that wild.

When the Four Horsemen characters would brag about partying all night, it was believable because Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, and Tully Blanchard lived their characters.

WWE had a lot of party guys backstage as well, as Vince McMahon did not have to answer to a Board of Directors or shareholders when the company was still privately held and owned.

The only time that Vince McMahon was really held accountable for what happened in the WWE locker room was when the government took him to trial for distributing steroids.

Kevin Wacholz, who worked as a character called Nailz, testified that not only did Vince McMahon provide him with steroids, but that McMahon also ordered him to take steroids.

Fortunately for Vince McMahon, prosecutors were not able to utilize the testimony against him, because Kevin Wacholz obviously hated McMahon and had his own personal agenda.

The prosecutors tried to get Hulk Hogan to be their star witness, but that backfired on them when Hogan testified in favor of Vince McMahon. That gave McMahon the legal victory.

While he didn’t make drastic changes immediately after the steroids trial, the fear of coming close to shutting down WWE remained deep within Vince McMahon for years to come.

In 1999, Vince McMahon decided to take things to another level when he took World Wrestling Entertainment from being a privately held company to one that was now public.

Being a smart businessman, Vince McMahon knew that things were going to change, because he now had people to answer to. The locker room needed to be completely cleaned up.

Cleaning up the WWE locker room wasn’t going to happen overnight. Vince McMahon knows that it was going to take years to change a culture that had ravaged the wrestling industry.

Gone are the days where we mourn for the loss of Gino Hernandez, who could have been one of the greats, or Eddie Guerrero, whose history of substance abuse finally caught up.

In this particular way, Vince McMahon has saved professional wrestling.
