Justin Bieber Eclipses The Beatles On Spotify

Justin Bieber is still rising in 2015. The superstar is currently wiping the floor with The Beatles in terms of streaming on Spotify, after the legendary group’s catalog was added to the service in Christmas Eve.

According to Spotify, The Beatles were added to over 673,000 playlists in the first two days of availability. Other reports state the British band performed well in their first few days on the nine major streaming services they launched on.

In four days, the most-streamed Beatles jam, “Come Together,” pulled in 2.8 million streams on Spotify. Meanwhile, “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude” cracked the 2 million stream mark.

Although The Beatles are streaming very decent numbers, the veterans are nowhere near Justin Bieber, Drake, Adele, and other contemporary artists. For example, the Biebs’ current hit “Sorry” has generated over 291 million streams on Spotify, while “What Do You Mean?” has punched in 385 million streams so far.

Both of these songs are singles on the Biebs’ new album Purpose. His critically acclaimed record was released on November 13, so it’s been out for a while.

A more pertinent inquiry would compare the first day streaming stats of “Sorry” and “Come Together.” By that criteria, Bieber is still in front by a considerable margin. On its first day, “Come Together” was streamed 304,770 times in the U.S.

In the other corner, “Sorry” racked up one million U.S. listens on its first day on Spotify. As did, the lead single from Purpose “What Do You Mean?” when it dropped at the end of August. Analysts reportedly believe the disparity shows how the two acts will fare in future.

Spotify, like other services, are certainly pushing the boat out by marketing the Beatles’ catalog now that they’ve got their hands on it. Spotify went big on promotions, and also made use of an interstitial ad that encourages users to listen to the band via Spotify’s app, The Fast Company reports.

In other Bieber music news, the pop prince forged a major record a few weeks ago when he became the only artist to have three songs in the top five of the U.K.’s Official Top 40 Singles chart and Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles chart.

In the U.S., the Skrillex and Blood-produced “Sorry” holds at No. 2. The acoustic kiss-off “Love Yourself” rises to No. 3, while the long player “What Do You Mean” is at No. 5. Adele’s “Hello” is, of course, No. 1.

“Sorry” remains atop the Streaming Songs chart, while “Love Yourself” shifts to No. 2 on Digital Songs, No. 3 on Streaming Songs, and No. 19 on Radio Songs, Headline Planet reports.

Over in Britain, “Love Yourself” is No.2, “Sorry” is No. 3 and “What Do You Mean?” is No. 5. In Australia, “Love Yourself” has extended its three week reign, with “Sorry” at No. 2 and “Mean” at No. 10.

Purpose bowed atop the Billboard 200 Albums chart five weeks ago with 649,000 combined equivalent album sales, and quickly garnered critical acclaim. The album has gone platinum in the States and has crossed two million worldwide, and counting.
