Kendall Jenner Got Into Modeling To Prove Everyone Wrong
Kendall Jenner is opening up as to why she got into modeling. It’s kind of because she wanted to prove her haters wrong. Seriously.
The 20-year-old reality star and high-fashion model took to her eponymous website to write a blog post on how she tries to stay positive despite reading negative comments about herself on social media. In her recent post, Jenner revealed that she does read the comments on her social media accounts and tries not to let them get to her.
“I have to admit, I’ll randomly catch myself looking at comments on Instagram and Twitter, but the second I see a mean one, I literally just put my phone away and forget about it.”
Kendall also revealed that she’s become more self-aware since becoming famous. She’s aware that whatever she says or does on social media will get scrutinized, so she makes sure to self-edit her posts. But even if Kendall does write something positive or says the right thing, she will still get scrutinized.
“So in reality, I know it’s not a bad photo, but someone’s going to say something mean anyway. They’re just bored. You just have to remember that it’s them, not you.”
The older Jenner sister fueled those negative comments into something positive. She doesn’t let the haters get her down these days. Instead, Jenner uses that hate to make herself an even better model.
“I think that’s how my career got started in a way – like an ‘I wanted to prove them wrong’ kind of thing because no one ever thought I could do what I’m doing right now.”
It’s certainly working out for her. Kendall Jenner has recently made her mark by walking in the 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show for the very first time. Though Kendall has walked for the biggest designers and fashion brands, she’s always dreamed of being a Victoria’s Secret model.
E! News caught up with the then 17-year-old at the Nomad: Two Worlds photography exhibit by Russell James back in 2013. Since some of James’ credits include shooting campaigns for Victoria’s Secret, of course Jenner was asked if she would ever model for the lingerie brand.
“It’s always been kind of a dream of mine,” Kendall admitted told the entertainment outlet. “It’s something I’d love to do.”
By the time Kendall’s 18th birthday rolled around, she became the face of Aqua Bendita swimwear, alongside fellow Victoria’s Secret models Candice Swanepoel and Sara Sampaio.
Then back in 2014, rumors swirled that Kendall Jenner would walk the VS Fashion Show. But the model was already walking for the Chanel Métiers d’Art show in Salzburg, Austria. Jenner’s best friend Cara Delevingne was another model who wasn’t listed on the 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show lineup. She walked for the fashion brand for the past two years, but she was also a no-show that year. Glamour magazine assumed that Jenner would be a shoe-in for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“We pretty much had money on Kendall Jenner walking the 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show next month. Why? Because not only is she the new model-of-the-moment, having dominated the catwalks during Fashion Month for the past two seasons, she also once said that it was her dream to be a VS Angel. We’re not going to lie, we’re a little disappointed that she’s not made the cut.”
Then the rumors only intensified thanks to an October 2014 report inside the pages of In Touch Weekly. The tabloid reported that Kendall was in the running to walk the brand’s annual fashion show, which was in located on London that year.
“They saw all the buzz she got from walking in New York Fashion Week. They’d love to lock in a contract with her”.
The only thing that got in the way of Kendall’s dreams was her mom Kris Jenner. Apparently, she was asking for too much money. Kris and Victoria’s Secret had to make some casting and money decisions, but those weren’t made in time. If the rumors are true, then it looks like Kendall finally had her “biggest dream” come true, thanks to her momager.
