‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Whatever Happened To Flight 462?

The very first installment of AMC’s latest Walking Dead franchise, Flight 462 was aired during the season 1 finale of Fear The Walking Dead. In the episode, which ran for only a minute and a half, Walking Dead fans were introduced to Jake as he boards a flight that may or may take off thanks to the zombie outbreak. But what ever happened to the next installment of this new series?

When news of this new Walking Dead series was announced, it seemed likely that the second installment of Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462 would premiere during the 90 minute season 6 premiere. However, the episode came and went and there was no mention of zombies on a plane during any of the ad breaks. So where did Flight 462 go? Was it such a flop that AMC dropped it after the very first episode screened? After all, outlets such as Deadline were intially reporting that Walking Dead fans would get two episodes of Flight 462 in the season 6 premiere of The Walking Dead.

No, AMC has not dropped the miniseries. It turns out the devil is in the detail. Part 2 of Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462 will screen during season 6 of The Walking Dead. While many assumed it would premiere in episode 1 (entitled “First Time Again”), it turns out Flight 462 could turn up in any of the remaining 15 episodes of season 6 of The Walking Dead. And, considering Flight 462 runs for 16 episodes, it was destined to be omitted from at least one episode of The Walking Dead this season anyway. It is also possible that AMC may choose to air two episodes during any given Walking Dead episode as well, further increasing the gaps between each episode aired.

What we do know though, is that if AMC are going to introduce a new character who survives Flight 462 to season of Fear The Walking Dead, it is likely this miniseries will air in its entirety during season 6 of The Walking Dead. Although, perhaps AMC will decide to keep over a few of the final episodes to play in the lead up to the season 2 finale of Fear The Walking Dead? That way fans may not know for certain who will be the new character right up until the week before the season 2 premiere.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462 is produced by Dave Erickson and David Wiener, written by L. Signorino and Mike Zunic, and directed by Michael McDonough.

What we already know from the very first installment is that a passenger called Jake (played by Brendan Meyer) boards a plane. It seems he and his mother are gong to meet up somewhere else, but, in the meantime, they are talking to each other on the phone. When another passenger asks one of the flight attendants if the plane will be grounded, Jake’s mother tells him not to worry, she will drive to the destination if need be. When Jake is about to hang up, he hears screaming from his mother’s end of the line. She tells him not to worry. The question remains, where is Jake exactly? Is his flight in L.A. about to be grounded? Or will the plane take flight and either make it to L.A. or have to be diverted to L.A. mid flight? Something else interesting to note is that another passenger on board, Charlie (Michelle Ang) who seems to be either extremely agitated with Jake’s behavior, or the characters share some sort of past animosity — which will it turn out to be?
