New York Jets Rumors: Ryan Fitzpatrick To Remain Starter Over Geno Smith

New York Jets rumors state that the team is staying with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback. The Jets rumors address that even when Geno Smith returns from his injury, the team will stick with Fitzpatrick. A report from NBC Sports on Tuesday, September 22, quotes Jets head coach Todd Bowles on a confirmation of this decision.

This is really bad news for Smith, who had entered training camp as the Jet’s starting quarterback. Teammate IK Enemkpali punched Smith back on August 11, breaking his jaw and sending him to injured reserve. It gave Fitzpatrick the opportunity to step up, and that is exactly what he has done through the first two weeks of the 2015 NFL regular season.

The Jets stand at 2-0 after a 31-10 win over the Cleveland Browns and then a 20-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2. The one-sided road win over the Colts was an extremely impressive showing for the Jets’ defense, but Fitzpatrick did steer the team to another big win.

The early success had already led to New York Jets rumors about how the quarterback situation would play out. Geno Smith is getting closer to being at full speed again, but he might not even get a shot to take his old job back. If Fitzpatrick continues to play well and the Jets keep winning, there is no reason for the coaching staff to go in another direction.

Through the first two games , Ryan Fitzpatrick has completed 37-of-58 passes (63.8 percent) for 423 yards and four touchdowns. He has thrown two interceptions, but the offensive line has done really good at protecting him this season. That has led to just one sack so far, which only bodes well moving forward. Keeping Fitzpatrick in the pocket and 100 percent healthy is a sure way for the Jets to make a run at the NFL Playoffs again.

The Jets are tied with the New England Patriots for first place in the AFC East, but haven’t played a divisional opponent yet. Next up is a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 27, followed by a road game against the Miami Dolphins on October 4. The Jets have a bye in Week 5, before returning for games against the Washington Redskins on October 18 and the Patriots on October 25. Fans should expect many more New York Jets rumors when Geno Smith is 100 percent ready again, and for NFL analysts to continuously weigh in on the situation until the end of the season.
